    The New Retail Thread

Brooks Brothers’ quality and breadth of offerings have diminished considerably over the years leading up to their bankruptcy and since the acquisition by Authentic Brands. A mall is exactly where they belong.

409 Huntington Ave | The Fenway

Seems like the standards around here hit rock bottom whenever there’s the possibility of something having an impact on the sKyLiNe. This design is pitifully lazy, unabashedly cheap looking and institutional in appearance. It'd be passable for a dorm tucked away out of sight of the general...

Raffles Boston (40 Trinity Place) | 426 Stuart Street | Back Bay

So flyover country and cartoonishly tacky SE Asia. What great company for Boston to have been in.

    Logan Airport Capital Projects

Delta was rumored to be interested. That would probably take care of AF and the rest of Sky Team. I can’t think of any other airlines that could justify their own space but Amex would be a nice addition.

I’m fairly certain there’s not a Four Seasons on the planet that has the logo lit up on the roofline of the building like that. To the people who live and stay there, as well as the vast majority of people who see the building on a daily basis, that kind of thing does look cheap and of course...

Hurley Building Redevelopment | 19 Staniford St | West End

As it should be. In virtually every real world situation the opinions that matter the most and are taken the most seriously come from those with skin in the game - in the case of a business, their shareholders and in the case of cities, their residents. Everybody’s free to have an opinion but...

Hurley Building Redevelopment | 19 Staniford St | West End

Not sure about that one but I was thinking of the Charlestown housing project redevelopment they’re doing.

Hurley Building Redevelopment | 19 Staniford St | West End

I can’t help but assume it was the only submission or at least the only one that has a track record of public-private partnerships. Now that the state has announced the partnership is there any basis to submit a FOIA request to obtain information on the other submissions?

Name this US city and related urban trivia!

Can I answer if I guessed the state correctly then found a city with 16,000 people and confirmed it on Google street view?

North End Cross Street Boutique Hotel | 42 Cross Street | North End

That still doesn't justify enabling harassment/intimidation outside of the courtroom. The only members who've ever struck me as being batshit crazy enough to do something like that have been banned but as a public forum we have no idea who else is reading this forum and who among them might have...

JetBlue and Spirit agree to merge.

Guess Wikipedia was wrong. Regardless, it’s a niche leisure route. I wouldn’t get too worked up about it.

State Street HQ | One Congress | Bulfinch Crossing | West End

I’m listening to BFD radio and it sounds like insulation is burning and they’ve had to open up walls to get to it. Initially seemed like most of the activity was on floors 7-10 but have heard reports of them operating up to floor 25 but not sure if the fire’s made it up that high or if they were...

JetBlue and Spirit agree to merge.

Delta flies to New Orleans. All of Spirit’s Boston routes except Atlantic City are flown by at least one other airline besides JetBlue.

    The New Retail Thread

I was mainly thinking St Regis, Raffles, Winthrop Center and in a few years the condos at SST. There’s also still a lot of inventory at places like Echelon, One Dalton and the Sudbury plus there’s virtually no action in the high end resale market. As for St Regis and Raffles being mostly sold...

    The New Retail Thread

Not quite. The high end market is all but dead and on top of the existing inventory that’s not selling there’s a lot of new inventory coming on in the next few years that the market will struggle to absorb. Just because there’s a crisis at the bottom of the market it doesn’t mean there’s...

    The New Retail Thread

And they probably determined that with a softening economy, higher interest rates and weaker demand in virtually all sectors plus perhaps a desire to focus all of their efforts on 171 Dartmouth that it made more sense to get a retail tenant for ten years or so.

Raffles Boston (40 Trinity Place) | 426 Stuart Street | Back Bay

Maybe when the city hits 3m and the metro hits ~20m and we have absolutely nothing left to build on but until then it’s just fine. The interior is nearly as worthy of preservation as the exterior, even with the bastardization of the Oak Bar/Room.
