South Station Tower | South Station Air Rights | Downtown

I'm curious about the "blue glass" categorization. Hanock (even though some here insist it's "green" 🤷‍♂️), Millenium, Winthrop, Exhcange Place, and Raffles (and others) seem (to me) to be blue. The new State Street seems purely "mirror" (and so does 1 Post Office Square, 111 Huntington, and...

    "Dirty Old Boston"

These are way better shots of this... abomination! I realize this is not an original thought, but what the heck was going through so many folks' collective minds during that era?

WOOF! Best I've found so far re: the '60s refurb (click link for more than this grab shows).

    "Dirty Old Boston"

That (misguided renovation) seems all too likely and typical, sadly. I wasn't able to find any pix of the previous structure in the '60s or '70s or '80s prior to what's currently there, but I also only spent about 10 minutes.

    "Dirty Old Boston"

While I don't hate 75 State Street and think it's a nice example of PoMo in Boston (though it's certainly, as you say, stumpy), I'd take the previous building over it in a heartbeat. Since I lived and went to school in Boston growing up and was walking around downtown -- and that area...

    Grounding the McGrath

So basically it'd be like Broadway from Magoun Square through to Sullivan. But with dedicated bike-lanes. Super over-wide, not especially pedestrian friendly or convivial-feeling, but WAY WAY better than the current McGrath.

    Union Square D2.1 | 10 Prospect Street | Somerville

From jump it looked llike something out of the late '60s/early '70s to me. As it ages and the patina takes on a more weather-worn quality, I suspect that'll be even more true. So, to me, definitely looks "dated" and always has, but not "dated to 2023" IMO.

10 World Trade | BGI Office Tower (Massport Parcel A2) | Seaport

Admittedly my knowledge of that type of "smart glass/windows" is limited, but at this stage in construction, even if they did go with something like View Glass, would it's functionality really be "on" at the moment?

I wish that had any chance of happening in my lifetime

CambridgeSide Galleria Reno/Redev | First Street | East Cambridge

In the past few years, as stores have closed in CSG and overall "mall traffic" is down in most places, I've consistently been surprised at how *many* people still went out of their way to get food at the old food court. Given the absurdly long lines at Taco Bell, Panda Express, and others when I...

Photo of the Day, Boston Style: Part XVIII (2024)

Absolutely agreed! That is such a singular time-machine of a building. Terrible in so, so many ways, objectively, but I kinda hope it always remains like this.

    Boston Skyline Photos

Charlie_mta referenced "the middle third" of the High Spine. In the photo being discussed, that would be the area in between the Hancock and the Pru. Bay Village is on "the left third" of the photo.

Another from the web. Looks like Towers (Not "Warren Towers") is going up on Bay State Road to the right in this pic.

BU Data Sciences Center | 665 Commonwealth Avenue | BU Central

Thank you for finding and sharing! Man, what a major loss. I'd absolutely love it if that building were still there. That close to Kenmore, literally on the BU campus, and with that aesthetic, in 2024 that'd be a seriously hoppin' club/restaurant/whatever.

South Station Tower | South Station Air Rights | Downtown

Looks like they have a very minimal, subdued version of some portion of the uplighting on S Station back up and running, which is low-key nice. Not sure why it's not back at the degree it used to be, but maybe there's a construction-related reason(?).
