    General Boston Discussion

It felt oddly light in substance, and oddly heavily in self-congratulatory platitudes that didn't even bother to try and describe goals for the future other than "we must do gooder." Of course, I'm one of the forums famously grumpy curmudgeons, so take me with a grain of salt.

The 2024 Olympics at Boston. Globe retrospective of sites then and now.

I chuckled at this McSweeney's comedy post from the other day on what events would've been held, had Boston hosted the 2024 Olympics. https://www.mcsweeneys.net/articles/sports-that-would-have-been-introduced-if-boston-hosted-the-2024-olympics

Just stumbled across this link tonight. Fascinating site with some deep research/info-vetting. Thanks for sharing!

    Addressing the housing crisis

Jaysus. In 2007, I lived for a hot second in a Brookline studio almost exactly this size and configuration (but with more storage), three buildings away from the old Holiday Inn on St. Paul Street. Rent? $750 a month.

Northeastern University - Institutional Master Plan

Yeah, it wasn't so clear in the pics from the filing (and I missed that table in my quick scan of the PNF), but it was very evident in tonight's taskforce presentation that they propose a brick veneer cladding.

Holy cow, this one is moving fast. Task Force meeting ... tonight!

Lyrik Back Bay | 1001 Boylston Street (Parcel 12) | Back Bay

Samuels is supposed to be on the hook for regrading the entire intersection and making the four corners ADA-compliant, as part of mitigation. Veolia (or whatever they're called now), also has a steam pipe expansion project going from Mass Ave/Boylston west out through Ipswich for Fenway Corners...

    Fenway Infill and Small Developments

All along the east side of Hemenway from Westland to Haviland, there is a double wide sort of pedestrian service alley. Popular for trash/recycling containers and drug use.

Dick’s House of Sports | Prudential Center | Back Bay

This is part of the Prudential PDA. Not sure height is allowed due to the agreement with the owners of the Lenox. I think BPX finally maxed out all the height they could under the PDA when they built that lump next to the Hynes.

Copley Square Revamp | Back Bay

The stream line reference made me smile. Apropos of nothing, I was reminded of those classic Sorkin-authored West Wing episodes when the Ainsley Hayes character was assigned an office in the Steam Pipe Trunk Distribution Venue. (Sorry, I'm punchy and free-associating. Been a long day.)

They're commonly used to protect the base of the tree from the errant hit by a bobcat or workers moving bulk material onto sites.

It was a full gut job and they ripped out the roof to go up a few feet in the back. You can see that from the plaza at the Star Market.

Anyone know why the Old Hancock spire has been dark recently? Feels like it's been out about two weeks now, not even the FAA beacon is lit. (Mods, please move if this is the wrong thread to query.)

Lyrik Back Bay | 1001 Boylston Street (Parcel 12) | Back Bay

I kind of agree. I don't have so much a problem with the **number** of joints, but that they're so inconsistent across the facets of David's projects. Some gaps are an inch, others (in the same plane or rise) are 7/8" or even 1.5". I've grumbled often to his design staff, but they keep doing it...

Lyrik Back Bay | 1001 Boylston Street (Parcel 12) | Back Bay

lol, taketern, that's a hilarious snap. I believe the technical term in the design world is "monumental signage," and wow. That is very much not monumental. Is Car Guru's trying preemptively sabotage themselves here, so as to enter into Chapter 9 and reorganize themselves?

Lyrik Back Bay | 1001 Boylston Street (Parcel 12) | Back Bay

From some consultants for Peebles and the MBTA, I understand Peebles is still hemorrhaging cash on due diligence/DD at Parcel 13. As for Parcel 15, some city contacts I've spoken with recently—off the record—suspect the Commonwealth is holding off on putting Parcel 15 up for redevelopment until...

Really disappointed at this news. I was really looking forward to a replacement for B&N.

Hearing from both Abe & Louie’s and Atlantic Fish staff that Tavistock has engaged demo and remediation contractors for the former C&B space. Not clear if this is for a short-term potential commercial lease or part of due diligence for the full site redevelopment/additional height. Will try to...

The Ipswich | 2 Charlesgate West | Fenway

IIRC, Fenway Group (back in 2007) objected to developments here due to proponents having a view of home plate/Red Sox rivals stealing signs for the benefit of out-of-town teams. I think both Scape at CGW and the Boston Conservatory property leads for the Masco lot were kinda like, “Seriously...
