Red Line Extension to Arlington Heights

Does it though? Ridership projections north of Arlington are horrific, that's why this thread is titled like it is. And it's not really surprising, Arlington has a population density 5 times higher than Lexington. For the amount of political and monetary capital it would take it's probably the...

MBTA "Transformation" (Green Line, Red Line, & Orange Line Transformation Projects)

In particular you'd need to do some serious mental gymnastics to justify spending $20,000,000 on Valley Road and its 10 daily riders. But as long as it's light rail operating on a request stop basis there isn't really a major time penalty to keeping the lower ridership intermediate stops, so if...

MBTA Commuter Rail (Operations, Keolis, & Short Term)

It's not like they do that often though, so many bus routes today are essentially unchanged since they were streetcars.

Red Line Extension to Arlington Heights

Logan puts out statistics for a bunch of things, including the number of departing flights. It's per month so I did a very crude 'multiply by 7/31' to get a rough number of weekly flights for August. Some quick googling can get you the number of flights per week between BOS and JFK, LGA, EWR...

MBTA Commuter Rail (Operations, Keolis, & Short Term)

Any overtime cost decrease is entirely negated by the fact that the goal for the Fairmount Line is 2027. But in terms of will the costs go down enough to make them competitive? Not without new battery technology, and pretty advanced new battery technology at that. That's still extremely far...

It's still pretty bad for me. Edit: Seems fixed now

Red Line Extension to Arlington Heights

About 1/5 commercial flights out of BOS are to New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore, or DC. There's some room to reduce those before we need to think about a second airport for Boston.

Expect more (justified) grilling from the Feds about the total lack of ATP.

Other People's Rail: Amtrak, commuter rail, rapid transit news & views outside New England

Charlie might not have, but I don't think it would be an unfair reading of the lyrics to say that they kind of promote fare dodging. ("Fight the fare increase")

    Eliminate the River Roads?

I think to make such a list is to become completely detached from the real world and its priorities, useful or not. Lots of these have various prerequisites or conditions that could alter their standing, but just for the sake of making a list, if I was God Emperor of All Dunks (and probably...

MBTA Commuter Rail (Operations, Keolis, & Short Term)

It sounds like a great idea if you don't know the details, and if the idea is told like how they tell it. It's a lie by omission. The story is that they want electrification with lower upfront costs. The reality is that the cost of leasing BEMUs and installing charging infrastructure is so high...

    Eliminate the River Roads?

There really isn't room for that. Either you dig out under Lansdowne station, or remove at least 3 lanes of Pike. The first is so expensive that it makes no sense compared to just digging out under Kenmore, and the second is just not happening for reasons that should be pretty obvious. Again...

    Eliminate the River Roads?

Sure, it's definitely a useful way to get through Allston, but it's terrible at actually serving Allston/Brighton. Basing any hypothetical commutes on that segment is rather silly. The main beneficiaries of any subway line that goes from Kenmore out west somewhere would probably be Watertown and...

    Eliminate the River Roads?

no? The difficulty of tunneling to Back Bay and then tunneling back out to Kenmore is entirely unrelated to any car infrastructure unless you're proposing to keep Storrow and close the Pike instead. Even going via Storrow it's one transfer at Kenmore, which would likely look pretty similar to...

    Eliminate the River Roads?

I think it's worth doing regardless of transit implications, frankly. But to speak briefly on said transit and going to Back Bay station: Would it actually be useful? For people going to/from MGH, sure, but apart from that I really can't think of much Would we be willing to massively inflate...

    Eliminate the River Roads?

I-90 is right there though, that is always an option. I think even the most environmentally-minded people would, at a minimum, settle for a widening I-90 to 8 lanes all the way into Boston and adding a new Bowker exit it if allowed for removing Storrow. I certainly would, in a heartbeat. And I...

MBTA Commuter Rail (Operations, Keolis, & Short Term)

It really depends how extensive the modifications were. If it's just a new paint job and some light refurbishments (ripping out some of the seats, slightly larger tables, maybe a couple power outlets) then whatever, think of it as a mobile podium for giving speeches.

I-90 Interchange Improvement Project & West Station | Allston

That's probably more expensive than just keeping the line open during construction, save for maybe a week or two at a time.

If you use the top floor of the ARL portion as offices and put at least a tiny amount of effort into sound dampening between floors it's not likely to be a problem. I regularly cycle past a vet with apartments on top, it can be done.
