    Crazy Transit Pitches

I do agree that there is potential for a future Acela/NER connection and that this could be extremely valuable. Getting New London to be a 1:45 train away from Logan is pretty big. But if we acknowledge that as one of if not the primary benefit, we should also acknowledge that turning that into...

    Crazy Transit Pitches

This number is just wrong. Assuming an average speed of 40 MPH between North Station and Logan given that we're presumably traveling non-stop here, the direct tunnel is 4.32 miles for ~6:30 of travel time, while the Chelsea route is about 6.78 miles for ~10:20 of travel time, so less than 4...

    Crazy Transit Pitches

Yeah if we're digging a deep bore tunnel then we may as well just start from Chelsea. No need to go nearly as deep like you would need to for connecting to NSRL if you do that either.

Is North Station really so important that it justifies adding over a mile of tunnel? I'm somewhat doubtful.

    The Official MBTA System Map

Let's go back to the root of why we want to show the Brookline Village -> Riverway connection. It's because it's useful. If you're commuting from Newton or Brookline to anywhere along Huntington it's usually the fastest way to get there. So what about Copley? I think the same thing is true...

    The Official MBTA System Map

I generally use paths to create the lines but then use outline path to make them into shapes and I've never had this issue. Maybe try that? It also makes it easier when you want to select it because you can just click on the line rather than trying to find the middle clickable bit. I do quite...

That was different though, I believe that train knocked out a whole signal box full of controls.

From the TIP meeting tonight: No immediate plans to move up the GL closure scheduled for December, but obviously it's a bit early to say for sure. Obviously in the photos there's clearly significant damage.

More photos from u/Girliepop5000 on Reddit. Certainly seems like that Type 8 is for parts now.

MBTA Commuter Rail (Operations, Keolis, & Short Term)

NSRL reduces the need for layover space in the city by through running trains, so if the MBTA doesn't need that layover space then Amtrak could have it, along with more capacity at South Station.

MBTA Commuter Rail (Operations, Keolis, & Short Term)

The latter, essentially. Turning a project with localized benefits into one that can benefit the whole NE Corridor and interstate transportation is really the only way I see NSRL happening.

Should they wish to contribute to NSRL they could have all the layover space in Boston that they could possibly dream of.

    MBTA Construction Projects

Hi-Rail tunnel meeting notes The project is estimated to be fully offset by the otherwise increased maintenance costs in a relatively short timeline Primary containments: Asbestos and naphthalene sulfonate This project is separate from the Alewife redevelopment The Cambridge requirements...

Fall River/New Bedford Commuter Rail (South Coast Rail)

Never say never of course, but I think we can reasonably say with very high certainty that basically no matter what at this point any opening would probably be around 2040 or later, so for any time period really worth talking about and experiencing as a person rather than a transit enthusiast...

I definitely like this iteration more. I still generally have to say that I disagree with the tradeoffs made but fitting in all the labels horizontally is no easy feat, excellent work with that. And now for an incredibly long list of nitpicks ranging from fairly significant to insanely minor...

The only change needed is to adjust the departure times from Braintree to account for the faster travel time. Right now that hasn't happened and the trunk headways are all over the place as a result. This shouldn't require any additional rolling stock, just a change to when the already scheduled...

Yeah I think an 'emergency' schedule change for the Red Line is needed given how drastic the improvement to travel times and headways on the Braintree branch.

A little early to come to any firm conclusions, but the TM dashboard is showing an immediate time savings of around 16-20 minutes between Braintree and Andrew, an average speed increase of around 10-11 MPH, and a reduction in headways of around 3 minutes.
