Portland, ME - New Construction Continued

Yes, I follow the BDN on a daily basis. They are always way ahead of the PPH on what's going on in the Portland area. Also, the coverage is usually much more in depth than what the Press Herald has.

That photo (rubble) is the opposite side (Free Street) of the suicide steps (Spring St.). They haven't demolished them yet.

I am pretty sure nothing is being done to the rink floor/chilling sysytem. They will be losing seating capacity due to the ADA compliance. I think the number is in the 400 + range as to the number of seats they will be losing. Also, they will be gaining the luxury suites in the corners of one...

    Portland Bayside

I would say Boulos was most definitely the developer on the Arena/Conv. Ctr./Hotel/Office Bldg. project as well as the 12 story building next to the courthouse. At the time, I also thought that Boulos was asking way to much $$ from the State/City and that he needed to find a way to come up with...

Maybe they should put up a row of 4 Hotels. That would be sure to pass through the Planning Board.

After the City is done with them I will be surprised if Federated ever even builds Phase 1. They will get fed up with the bullcrap and move on to another City. Remember what a clusterF the Maine State Pier project became with the final 2 developers. Haven't heard from Ocean Properties looking...

    Portland Bayside

I totally agree with everything you stated. Portland's current skyline on a scale of 1 to 10 I would rate about a 3. If they cared so much about blocking the skyline view why did they allow the atrocity that is Bayview Apartments next to the Intermed building? Also, the unfinished look of the...

Hopefully as in past projects (Maine State Pier for example) the Planning Board doesn't drag this process out so long that the Developer becomes frustrated and eventually scraps the project altogether. Seams like the only projects that get approved with ease in Portland are Hotels.

I was reading in last week's Forecaster where Jon Jennings one of the managing partners in the Forefront at Thompson's Point project said they hope to start construction later this year. He was the original founder of the Maine Red Claws and he left the Red Claws to concentrate on the...

Portland, ME - New Construction Continued

PA, I like your comments on the Press Herald Website in regards to today's article about the Maritime Landing project. To see the latest architectural rendering (and I know that you have seen it already) of the project go to the Bangor Daily News website. BDN always seams to come up with the...

Portland, ME - New Construction Continued

There is an article in the Bangor Daily News today titled "Developer planning 7-tower project on Portland scrapyards". It shows an architectural rendering of what the area could look like. I think this is the same rendering that was in the PPH a few years back. Also, in the BDN there is an...

    Portland - Civic Center

Another 2 weeks and another meeting and then final drawings. It seams like the board is dragging this process out. Hopefully all the planning will be worth it. I am told that Cianbro has been offered some fairly substantial incentive bonuses for early completion of each stage of the project...

    Thompson's Point, Portland

I believe 3,500 seats plus the luxury boxes is the max. amount that the Red Claws can realistically expect to draw on a regular basis. I believe the arena is being designed so it's a very cozy basketball arena and so that the atmosphere is lively. The Civic Center would be way to big for the...

    Portland - Civic Center

I was always under the impression that the outside wall/roof area that angles down would be brought straight down almost in line with the inside edge of the sidewalk so that they could actually widen the Concourse area. Otherwise, I don't see how they increase the width of the Concourse which...

    Portland - Civic Center

On the Cianbro website www.cianbro.com is an architectural rendering of what the entrance of the Civic Center will look like from the Spring Street/Center Street area. First time I have seen this rendering and not sure if it the final design. Cianbro was selected as the construction manager...

    Portland - Civic Center

They should fill in the corners at one end with additional seating. Portland should have an arena that has at the very least 8,000 fixed seats. I believe it now seats in the 6,700 range.

    Portland - Civic Center

I agree with you completely. I would prefer a new 9,000 to 10,000 seat arena down at Bayside but unfortunately that probably won't happen for another 20 years. Looking forward to seeing the final plans for the renovation.

    Portland - Civic Center

I finally heard a radio ad for the Civic Center renovation on my drive home last night. It wasn't overly convincing. Basically, that it will create 170 + jobs in construction, bring in more visitors & money to the region and then a woman comes on and says "my kids love going to the Civic...

    Portland - Civic Center

Does anyone have any idea why there has been absolutely no advertisements on TV or in the newspaper promoting the proposed Civic Center renovation vote (at least I haven't seen any)? Is it that they don't want to make the people in the outlying Cumberland County communities aware of the...

Camden and Bar Harbor are both fabulous although both are heavy tourist destinations as is Kennebunkport. When on Mount Desert Island I usually spend more time on the Southwest Harbor side of the Island than in Bar Harbor. Carriage Trails for biking, running and the mountains to hike are all...
