    Eastern Waterfront

What about the Lincoln Square project? Do the Chamber guys know something we don't? I thought that project was D-E-A-D! At least as long as Baldscratchy is in office which will be another 4 years. My guess is that we will have a new arena by the year 2012 at the earliest.

Portland, ME - New Construction Continued

I am told that the "Westin" Condo/Hotel project is all but dead and that the property is up for sale. What a bummer, I used to think that project was a sure thing.

    Portland

Well, you have seen waht a lousy Democrat has done, a lousy Republican couldn't do much worse and I am sure would be much more in tune w/ economic development than Baldacci is.

    Portland

Unfortunately, Baldacci will win fairly easy. So that means no Lincoln Square project (Civic Center/Convention Ctr./Off. Bldg./Hotel) for at least another 4 + years. Baldacci has done very little for the State in his first 4 years in office, but unfortunately most people don't get that.

    Portsmouth

Word I got from someone involved in the Commercial Real Estate world downtown Portland is that the Proc. Group pretty much now hates M. Liberty and wants him out. What I am told is the Westin won't happen anytime in the near future. I am also told that Waterview will probably never get built...

Portland, ME - New Construction Continued

Yeh, but there are more brick cube buildings slated for Marginal Way!! Anyhow, I am told that Cohen's bldg. is on the market for I think $12.5 mil. and there is alot of interest. The plans I saw for 3 PS were very prelim./basic. Pretty much an Architects hand drawn elevations & plan views...

Portland, ME - New Construction Continued

I am told that the building Cohen owns in Portland (I think it's at 477 Congress St.) is up for sale. Maybe it's to help ($$) get the Waterview project going. Personally, I would be very surprised to see Waterview go up anytime soon. Hope I am wrong. Also, I am told that Procaccianti Group...

    Maine--What the hell?!?

It should be the new mascot for Maine Democrats instead of the Donkey!

    Waldo Hancock Bridge, Bucksport, Maine

I drove past the new bridge being constructed over the Penobscot River in Bucksport last week. Very, very impressive project. I would have to say it's the most substantial construction project built in the State over the last 10 years (unless you want to count the Turnpike widening). Check it...

    Recent visit to Portland

The Public Market was Elizabeth Noyes dream and w/ her passing away several years ago, I am certain that Owen Wells (Libra Foundation President) being the prudent business man that he is, has looked at the huge drain $$ on the Libra Foundation coffers by subsidizing the PM and has also realized...

Oh, they were anxious to dump the Market!

    Recent visit to Portland

The Libra Foundation (from what I am told - very reliable source) used to lose close to 1 million per year on the Public Market. The Restaurant at the PM pays absolutely nothing for a lease. Libra basically subsidized the restaurant space so that their WOULD be a restaurant in the Public...

Portland, ME - New Construction Continued

Have you ever been in the building that they are in (other than the lobby)? It's nothing special, quite old and in need of a total interior retrofit job. I would say that Pierce Atwood being the firm that they are, they want a new upscale building to call home.

Portland, ME - New Construction Continued

It's the law firm. Others are interested too, but I don't know who they are. I have always been told that Portland is very difficult/frustrating to deal with as far as getting anything built/completed, etc. To many liberals to deal with if you ask me, who don't want to offend anybody by...

Portland, ME - New Construction Continued

I have been told by 2 different sources that the City is insisting on the additional underground parking. As you can imagine the underground parking is very, very expensive. The folks financing the project the project apparently can not justify the added cost which I am sure is substantial...

Portland, ME - New Construction Continued

I am told that one of the major problems with the Westin Hotel/Condo project is that the City is insisting that the project has approx. 300 additional parking spaces (underground) for the project and the people financing the project can't/won't justify it (additional parking). I am also told...

Failed Portland Projects, a pictoral list

Patrick, now you need to put up a thread w/ all of the brick boxes that have been built over the last few years! I used to wish for the Red Sox to win a World Series title in my lifetime, now I wish for the City of Portland to build a NEW ARENA in my lifetime!! I'm 46, what do you think the...

Re: CCCC Or the next Kiss Concert the roof catches fire and poof there goes the restaurant and everyone in it! I think the top of the CCCC would be a good location for a Hooters Restaurant. So Patrick, you being a Democrat, but not caring for Baldscratchy, who are you going to support for...

Portland, ME - New Construction Continued

Re: CCCC Patrick, what do you think of the idea of a rooftop restaurant on top of the existing CCCC? Certainly would be unique, but I think a bit far-fetched. PORTLAND build a new arena instead of some half-assed cobbled together mess!
