    How does Boston's urbanism compare?

I don't know about overrating Boston. But that gap between Boston and Seattle has been narrowing. Boston is clearly the more consistently urban city and still has the lead in density, urban texture. But Seattle has a couple areas where I think it excels: 1) It has been more ambitious with new...

    50 Liberty @ Fan Pier | 50 Liberty Drive | Seaport

That's unfair, the ones on Florida would have been twice as tall.

    How does Boston's urbanism compare?

Yeah, I see Portland as being in line with Pittsburgh, New Orleans, and Baltimore. All have elements of very high quality urbanism, but aren't big or dense enough to really be considered a top tier US urban city.

    How does Boston's urbanism compare?

I see that. I see Boston being on a spectrum somewhere between SF/Philly and DC. Not as "downtown peaked" as Philly/SF but not as "European" as DC. Closer to Philly/SF than DC. But, Philly and SF feel more "big city" than Boston.

    How does Boston's urbanism compare?

From an urban perspective, how would you say Boston compares to other US cities? I would say: 1) NYC- clearly in a league of its own. massive drop 2) Chicago- the other grand urban city. Other cities may have similar or higher densities. But, know where can compare to Chicago's scale. big...

Winthrop Center | 115 Winthrop Square | Financial District

I like all the Boston comparison posts, but can we maybe move them to another thread. I created a somewhat similar thread a few years ago. Perhaps we can use that dead one or create a new one? http://www.archboston.org/community/showthread.php?t=5184

^^ Interesting, that flew under the radar. Looks like the plan is for a 7-story hotel redevelopment. https://www.bldup.com/projects/friend-street-hostel

Re: Six West Broadway Hotel |South Boston That's a really cool looking view..but is that imaged a little stretched to make the buildings appear taller?

Amazon HQ2 selected - and not Boston

I would normally agree, but at this point the HQ2 search is over. Boston didn't win. This thread really has no purpose other than random musings about all things amazon. Maybe just move the whole thread at this point?

[CANCELED] 1000 Boylston Street | MassDOT Parcel 15 | Back Bay

Yeah, the loss in height is disappointing (a 586ft. condo/ and a 301ft apartment building.) But, the drop in total units from 160 condos/182 apartments to 108 condos is a bigger disappointment. https://www.universalhub.com/2017/developer-unwraps-plans-two-tower-residential

    The New Retail Thread

Not exactly current retail news, but not sure this deserves its own thread yet. The big parking lot on Newbury Street (278 Dartmouth) is up for sale. http://www.bldup.com/projects/278-dartmouth-street

    Cambridge Crossing (NorthPoint) | East Cambridge/Charlestown | Cambridge/Boston

Well in so far as height is a conduit for density. It reminds me of much the DC area development where it is too large scale and master planned to feel organic, but not dense enough to feel vibrant after house. A couple towers would help in that regard.

Raffles Boston (40 Trinity Place) | 426 Stuart Street | Back Bay

It seems weird they would have shut down the old (conceivably profitable) hotel without the financing for this all lined up.

    Cambridge Crossing (NorthPoint) | East Cambridge/Charlestown | Cambridge/Boston

I hope I'm wrong, but this feels like a missed opportunity in the making. Reminds me of Crystal City outside DC. Technically mixed-used TOD, but underwhelming execution. In 20 years hopefully this will get a "National Landing" type makeover as moderately taller/moderately more interesting...

MassDOT Pike Parcels 12 - 15 | Boylston St. and Mass. Ave | Back Bay

I hope I'm wrong. But,five years sounds optimistic considering its getting late in the cycle and there has been no movement on any of these parcels in the 10 years this thread has been active. I hope one project is at least U/C in 5 years.

Nothing better than opening AB and seeing BeeLine posts. When and if 290 Tremont ever gets built these will create a nice little canyon here.
