    Scituate infill and small developments

It's not specifically about infill development, but this recent drone shot does show that Scituate has a rather dense and walkable downtown, despite the appearance of several large parking lots.

    Quincy General Developments

That's wonderful news, but where did you get that information? Is it listed on some MBTA website?

Skylines and Developments of the US/World

My brother lives in Bartlesville. I've stayed at the Price Tower Boutique hotel. It was VERY cool, and I hope they can save it. I think it worked PERFECTLY as a small hotel, but Bartlesville isn't a huge tourist draw. It's an hour north of Tulsa.

Shreve, Crump & Low Redevelopment | 334-364 Boylston Street | Back Bay

This will be a win in my book if the street is really activated and the retail or restaurants are engaging and full of people. That corner of Boylston was always kind of dead in my opinion.

Melbourne Trams on St. Kilda Road, near our hotel. Service was VERY frequent and quite extensive.

Metro photos from around the world

Not a traditional Metro, but high platforms, electric trains, and frequent service to the Melbourne suburbs.

New Barangaroo Subway Station in Sydney. It just opened mid August 2024. Very clean! All trains are automated like the Montreal REM. (I think it's a very similar train design.)

Josiah Quincy Upper School | 900 Washington Street | Chinatown

I totally agree with your feelings, but it all comes down to money and politics. I've seen a thousand planning documents with GREAT ideas basically sit on the shelf because there is no money to implement them. Plus, developers have to secure the land in question plus make a least some profit...

North Station Gateway | 251 Causeway St | Bulfinch Triangle

Seeing those elevations makes me chuckle. Can anyone point to a previous rendering with trees and dense vegetation on the roof or upper floors that ACTUALLY came to be implemented? There is the rooftop parking garage park at Kendall Square, but I can't think of any other examples. We...

North Station Gateway | 251 Causeway St | Bulfinch Triangle

My first architecture job back in 1987, was located in the building highlighted in red: Steffian Bradley Architects That building is nothing special, and I wouldn't mourn the loss, but the nice brick building to the right shouldn't be demolished. I really wish they could at least incorporate...

Shreve, Crump & Low Redevelopment | 334-364 Boylston Street | Back Bay

Even the re-do wasn't that great. In the first iteration, the actual materials looked NOTHING like the renderings, which were OK......if even a bit Disney fake. However, the cheap materials and tacky installation is what really killed it in my opinion. They made it better, but still not great.

    AIA Convention

This is funny when I searched for a thread about AIA Conventions in Boston, the last post was 2008. It's coming back in 2025! The Seaport will be quite a bit different than in 2008 when I led tours. https://conferenceonarchitecture.com/

    1274 Massachusetts Avenue | Dorchester

I know we have the #1 bus, but I think a Streetcar along the length of Mass Ave from Central Square down to Columbia road would really spur retail and housing activity. (Maybe I just have Melbourne envy from all the excellent streetcars we used while visiting.)

    Boston Common Overhaul

Excellent summary. Yes, I remember the nice metal tables and umbrellas next to the Brewer Fountain, and that's what I was expecting............but it was really sketchy looking now.

    Boston Common Overhaul

I walked the Boston Common via the Tremont Street Edge near the Park Station T last week, and it seemed kind of run down. It was mid-afternoon, but there seemed to be quite few homeless people laying on benches in the park.

South Station Tower | South Station Air Rights | Downtown

The Starbuck's was in a new location from when I was last at South Station a few months ago. The Dunks might have been in the same location, but I'm not sure. The Caffe Nero Express was in the old Starbuck's location. When I was last at South Station maybe back in June or July, the...

Fall River/New Bedford Commuter Rail (South Coast Rail)

My Greenbush 8:10am train this last Thursday was delayed almost 30 minutes into South Station because of outbound train traffic and delays. (…..according to the announcement.) I’m worried about additional traffic on the Quincy-Dorchester main line with additional Fall River and New Bedford...
