Yeah, what's peoples' general stance on this? I know the BPDA has a muddled history and corruption problems, but does it need full abolishment? Or would some reforms work better? Is Wu's replacement council much different?

Man, it'd be wonderful if people who use that word so much knew what it actually meant...

Wu is the only candidate to support rent control, and there's no way it'd get implemented anyway with it banned at the state level - Baker is starkly against it.

Boutique Hotel at 88 North Washington St | Bulfinch Triangle | West End

Yes. The UMass Amherst Design Building was one of if not the first one 4 years ago. Fire resistance has been substantially studied and these structures are as safe if not more so than typical stick built/steel frame ones. The dense wood has a very predictable char rate that helps insulate and...

Best Modern Building Under 100 Meters

The facade diagram for that thing is sort of neat. Also surprise, it's a vertical rainbow inside. I actually really really dislike the colors of the panels they chose (I don't care what tree-form they call it, it's still an ugly color palette. Orange can stay, the rest don't work). And the...

    🔷 Open Thread

Not sure if anyone else reads Universal Hub (great blog style, more casual local news posts by one guy). But this post from today about residents in West Roxbury suing to block a neighbor from adding onto his house had me absolutely furious. I highly recommend giving the segment of the hearing...

    Harvard - Allston Campus

That plan is absolutely bizarre. Look at the shapes of those rooms!!! Why are they all stepped instead of more pure volumes? I'm extremely curious to see the interior layouts of these. Do they have long built-in areas to fill between the shifts? A few of those corridors are equally awkward and...

I appreciate your contributions Boston02124, but sometimes seeing shots like these makes me worried you're taking them in the driver seat... going 50 down Storrow Dr... be careful out there! (don't text/snap and drive!)

    Cambridge Infill and Small Developments

808 is not a good example of well done brutalist towers. As long as they don't touch Peabody Terrace or Mather House, have at the renos. It's a shame this one is so generic, but at least it's not oppressively severe anymore.

    Kendall/MIT Infill and Small Developments

The small punched windows intersecting the existing ones gives me anxiety. But DSR has done it before and it can work... Just hard to imagine it being as clean with an (old) existing brick wall. I'm not sold by the glas boxes either. They're just so neutral. I wish they were articulated more...

7INK (née Ollie) | 217 Albany St | South End

Yeah I see those. But they read more like a flat picture frame than something 3D.

7INK (née Ollie) | 217 Albany St | South End

I don't see any illusion (or attempt at one) for the 7ink building. All 4 of the frame panels are the same shade of beige so no depth is implied. Also side note, I've always loved that Suffolk building. Really beautiful paneling.

    Green Line Type 10 Procurement

I'm specifically weirded out by the London tube one, that could pass as a hyperloop train. But yeah, I find many of those designs a little strange. Also probably personal bias in thinking the GL absolutely crawls particularly slowly.

Middlesex County Courthouse Redevelopment | 40 Thorndike St | East Cambridge

This forum fetishizes height and skylines too much. The building as-is is already absurdly out of scale for the neighborhood. We should be thankful it's not getting stripped down to its podium. I'm all for height where appropriate, but this is one of those extreme cases where how pretty it...

7INK (née Ollie) | 217 Albany St | South End

Man, those panels are just ugly. Too flat. Proportions all wrong on the lighter-colored miter edge ones. That shade of beige is pretty terrible. I'm just waiting for the "Holiday Inn Express" sign to show up on top.
