165 Washington Ave | Northern Burner Supply Redevelopment | Portland

Back when USM was proposing the elimination of the "short-cut street" connecting Bedford and Deering, the PPH had an article on this. In the comments section, one response was an angry one, one livid that his (am assuming an older male) routine of getting home would be different, or somehow more...

    Portland International Jetport | PWM

The lot next to MACJets is the best place for viewing in my opinion. Hang out there next weekend to watch the Wall Street billionaires fly in with their Gulfstreams to drop the kids off for summer camp. NEA has some of it too.

165 Washington Ave | Northern Burner Supply Redevelopment | Portland

This has been submitted for 2400 Mass Ave. in Cambridge. I like its form, but not the exterior materials. How tall would this need to be for the Wash. Ave. footprint to contain 324 units? 10 plus floors?

Do they live on the peninsula? I'm basing my theory on Gen Z in L.A. as my brother works with around 200 of them there. One bought a Tesla and doesn't really drive it. He just wanted it to brag about.

They are complaining about height and how it will ruin life for this area, but not far behind this is a 13-story condominium tower. They don't like to think, only react with emotion.

For the most part, Gen Z doesn't or prefers not to drive. If you can determine the numbers who will be renting an apartment in this group that will help. All the boomers in town (Maine has the oldest population demo in the nation) who are so vocal about this are doing so by basing it on their...

Did that at the bar behind the pizza tables above the Green Monster at Fenway. $75 tickets standing while drinking beer at the bar with a 270-degree view of the city. Best "seat" I think I've had so far at Fenway.

The Longfellow Hotel | 754 Congress Street | Portland

Are those functioning Italian style balconies or simply a superficial visual? The North End has many. It's where the grandmas snoop and lean out to watch the children play in the street. They are your de facto security detail.

Manfredi did the initial creative design. They are a far better and much bigger arch firm. And Passivhaus is a certification that is done with a blower test. If you are 95% there and not Passivhaus it is better than Passivhaus. Otherwise, you can't use a gas range or gas fireplace in the house...

    Portland International Jetport | PWM

The Jetport is often the first impression of the city for new visitors, and like they say, "You never get a second chance to make a first impression." I still think going down the escalator is somewhat of a bore at the Jetport, or anticlimactic to the Portland Harbor approach visuals that the...

Portland Museum of Art Expansion | Portland

The typical Maine commenter is far more lively, that's for sure. Bostonian comments I think are a bit more education based, or thought out, so not impulsive. The one thing to point out here is several mentioned the Cobb 1982 addition was too tall and imposing, a kind of wall, so not good...

Rock Row (née The Ridge, née Dirigo Plaza) | Westbrook, ME

Jeez. That's horrid. It reminds me of the Fyre Festival, when the organizers presented camping out on dirt and dining on Wonder Bread baloney sandwiches.

It wasn't done right. I'm talking about a *German beer garden* and so not a hasty and zero thought-out one.

The Longfellow Hotel bar is nice, though this one in Portland had been my favorite... (completely re-done now)

Amen. For the summer it could be easy. All they need to do is Google "German beer garden" and duplicate that. It wouldn't cost much. But at least it would be something. I'm beginning to think the people behind Rock Row are denser than the rock in their quarry.

Under the sign they forgot to design a door for access to that longish balcony.
