    New York City Congestion Pricing

https://www.reuters.com/world/us/new-york-governor-relaunch-manhattan-congestion-charge-plan-source-says-2024-11-13/ I didn't realize they would need approval from the federal government to implement a toll.. I guess she figures she'd better do it before Trump taking office. That being said...

    New York City Congestion Pricing

Although, as I think about it more, I'm not so sure how delaying the implementation of this program helped the governor politically. The people from the states it would affect most (NY, NJ, CT) were not at risk at going red - and even with the delay, all three states still became redder, though...

    New York City Congestion Pricing

Sadly it's politics as usual, but the end result will be the one most people wanted, so I guess that's good.

Multi-Family Zoning Requirements for MBTA Communities

Is Westford really going to add nearly 5000 units to their town? They don't even have a commuter rail.

Skylines and Developments of the US/World

I was there a few months ago. It's a lovely city, but the area reminds me so much of various places around the US. The CBD reminds me of parts of Manhattan or even Boston and the suburbs look a lot like ones we'd see in the Pacific Northwest. And the tram network is fantastic, but so is the...

MassDOT Rail: Springfield Hub (East-West, NNERI, Berkshires, CT-Valley-VT-Quebec)

I could see hourly service to Springfield, but reduced service to Albany.

Wow. I can't wait for that "twice a day" service. 😬

    Addressing the housing crisis

And that's fine. I like good architecture - and the there's no shortage of good architecture around the Boston area. But I also like affordability, and it would be nice to see move of these 5 over 1s to add density to places outside of city centers.

    Addressing the housing crisis

As a fairly regular visitor to Singapore, I think we can use the city-state as a model for both public and private housing. Outside of the central business district in Singapore, you see a lot of bland housing blocks that are mostly publicly owned and run. They're boxy, they often have big...

    Proposed watertown ferry

It sounds like a great idea but 50 minutes to go 10 miles is nothing to get excited about. Also, if they're going to take people home from the TD Garden and Fenway, they should have late night service. Also, frequency is key, so they're going to need more than one boat.

    Haverhill Developments

I hope I'm not derailing this thread too much, but I was in Haverhill for the first time in years last week and the city looked lovely.

    Worcester Ballpark & Redev

Went to the park for the first time yesterday. I liked the inside of the park, but the exterior is awful. I get that Worcester is Massachusetts' "filing cabinet", but couldn't they at least give the exterior a bit of character?

    Worcester Ballpark & Redev

I'll be visiting the area in a few weeks and my friend from Milton and his family will be joining me for a game out in Worcester. Still cheaper and less of a schlep than going to Fenway...plus I really want to to see the new stadium.

    Downtown post COVID

Convert as many buildings as possible into condos or apartments.

Idea for fixing the housing shortage

I reject the notion that Americans only want a house with a yard as well. When my wife and lived in Cambridge, I'd talk to people in suburbs all the time telling me they wished they could live in the city, but they couldn't afford it. I'd also hear, from time to time, people who were tired of...

Idea for fixing the housing shortage

What I don't understand is why there aren't more "adequate" apartments and apartment/condos being built. Stop building luxury and start building three bedroom units in medium density buildings that have the basics, but no frills. Why is that such a hard thing to do? I mean, I'm sitting here...

    Addressing the housing crisis

I realize the law is a bit clunky, and some work needs to be done to improve it, I do support the ultimate goal. However, could the MBTA simply say "If you don't follow our new law, you lose your train station?

    Women only coaches on trains

I've lived here in Malaysia for 14 years, so I'm well aware of the cultural differences. Malaysia is certainly conservative by American standards, but it's somewhat moderate by Muslim standards. There are some parts of the country where Islam is so dominant that they segregate movie theaters...

Fall River/New Bedford Commuter Rail (South Coast Rail)

You really can't compare to NY. A Metro North mostly pass does not entitle you to unlimited subway and bus like an MBTA monthly pass does
