    General Portland Discussion

Funny you should say that. It was a eyesore parking garage for the longest time. Eric Cianchette built that building over the parking garage back in the late 90's/early 00's, and the Historic Preservation Board had absolute fits over the design.

There are leaves on the trees in the shots. This was filmed prior to the naming decision.

I'll give myself a B+ on this effort

When I'm flying, it's almost always for work, and my company is footing the bill for parking. So, that's another big difference. I've done the bus ride to Logan thing a couple times for some West coast trips, and I did not find it enjoyable, especially coming back. I just wanted to get home. I'm...

    Portland International Jetport | PWM

I'd say 90+% of the flights I've taken out of PWM have been in that early morning push. This is just me, but even if it was available, I'm not grabbing a METRO bus from Westbrook at 3-4am to catch a 5-6am flight. Currently, the earliest buses from Westbrook are around 6am and necessitates at...

I drove by the other day, and there was a large excavator parked here, closer to the Congress Street entrance. Perhaps it was used for a soil test on that part of the property?

Potential Soccer Stadium | Portland peninsula

Based on this conceptual rendering from that plan I linked above, it appears the south branch of Long Creek (at least the original course) runs under where I propose putting the stadium, so that might kill that idea. There's still a sea of open surface parking lots to choose from, though.

Potential Soccer Stadium | Portland peninsula

There have been some high level conceptual plans floated to transform the mall, but nothing concrete. Just ideas at this point. https://www.gpcog.org/DocumentCenter/View/1182/Maine-Mall-TOD-Final-Plan-PDF

I doubt that's the connect. He's more likely just trying to weaponize progressive/liberal ideology (e.g. trying to eliminate symbols, monuments or effigies to the Confederacy). Same idea as conservatives weaponizing culture war topics to rally their base, except coming from the other direction.

Potential Soccer Stadium | Portland peninsula

This isn't the craziest idea I've pitched on ArchBoston over the years, but it might be close. Hear me out: build the stadium at the Maine Mall, replacing the Sears as a primary anchor. Why I think this isn't the craziest idea: The mall is already served by five bus routes: Two from GP Metro...

The Casco | 201 Federal Street | Portland

OK, so I took the bait and read through some of the comments on the Reddit page. I came away with only one thought: What the #$%& is wrong with these people?

Potential Soccer Stadium | Portland peninsula

Just throwing this idea from 2020 back out there - what about the UNE Bishop Street property (former Pike property)? There's plenty of space, easy access to the ME Turnpike, and you could even run trolleys along existing rail from various locations throughout the city and neighboring communities...

Rock Row (née The Ridge, née Dirigo Plaza) | Westbrook, ME

If I owned or operated a construction firm, I wouldn't touch it with a 1,000 foot pole. Beyond the obvious "am I going to get paid" question, I can't even imagine the liability insurance hoops to jump through to take over work on a job of this scale that someone else started.

And of course I'm going to Nashville in May, before the start of direct flights 🥴

Whether its Dunks or some other outfit, the Jetport desperately needs another breakfast option. Great American Bagel, Starbucks and Burger Dong just don't cut it.

Rock Row (née The Ridge, née Dirigo Plaza) | Westbrook, ME

Ok, so regardless of whatever happened in Las Vegas, anyone else thinking this is the nail in the coffin for the original vision of Rock Row? What construction firm will agree to work with them going forward? Waterstone should sell it off to someone that has a clue.

Rock Row (née The Ridge, née Dirigo Plaza) | Westbrook, ME

Waterstone is developing it. I believe it's their largest single project to date, and most of their projects have been anchored in retail. It just seems that they're in way over their head.

Rock Row (née The Ridge, née Dirigo Plaza) | Westbrook, ME

I wonder if this investor pulled back on this funding? That quarry-side beer garden has been a disaster. Every time I go by, it's empty. A neighbor of mine was vending at it for a short while, and Waterstone/Rock Row delayed payment to him, making a bunch of excuses.

    Westbrook, ME

Based on the picture I saw, the average age of those that attended the first meeting of the anti-development group was probably over 65, hence the nature of the FAQ/Q&A. There is a significant "fear of change" and "fear of things not understood" component here.
