So this took me forever to find. It was originally posted on the old (now sadly gone) Skyscraperguy forum but thankfully ablarc copied it in a post over at Cyburbia. I'm not saying it is the definitive opinion of the West End pre-renewal, just another perspective.

I agree. I work in the area and while it's really not that far as the crow flys, both Beacon Hill and Government Center present a huge psychological barrier to "downtown".

I get what you are saying, but this isn't 2003 anymore. High efficiency, renewable sourced building systems have been around for a while now. A lot (not all) of the early problems have been ironed out. I doubt this building will be 100% successful and will probably require more than few tweaks...

Ames Building is probably one of my favorite buildings in the city. I question if this is really the highest and best use for it. I think that it makes a great showpiece for people visiting the city.
