    Portland International Jetport | PWM

100% this. It's hard to overestimate the value of eliminating connections which not only add a lot of time to a trip (or stress if the connection is tight), but drastically increase the odds of something going wrong and stranding you somewhere. But even if something does go wrong out of BOS...

City Hall Plaza Revamp | Government Center

Maybe. I guess you could do one from around the T headhouse down toward Hanover, and another from the JFK building to the Washington Mall. But I don't know if cyclists would stick to the paths/lanes as there are other origins/destinations and routes bikers will travel to get there. We'll see...

City Hall Plaza Revamp | Government Center

I don't know if you're supposed to, but I see a lot of people doing it and I personally don't mind at all. There's plenty of room for both pedestrians and cyclists.

    Fairhaven, MA

Thanks for these! Fairhaven is easily one of my favorite, most underrated towns in MA. We buy fresh lobster and sometimes scallops directly from a boat at Union Wharf every couple of months when we're down that way. Can't beat it!

East Boston Infill and Small Developments

As that Maverick Square building rises, the 7/11 looks even more out of place. Can't wait for it to go. I've always liked those buildings on Marginal. Is the shiny silver mannequin still perched on a chain on one of the balconies of the black framed on (whose balconies remind me of lobster pots)?

Dick’s House of Sports | Prudential Center | Back Bay

Rideshares are an easy solution to this problem. A city dweller buying more than they can comfortably carry on the T from Dick's House of Sport will probably just snag an Uber (or even Uber XL) for the one-way trip home with their purchases. I don't know that it'll be a huge draw for suburban...

10 World Trade | BGI Office Tower (Massport Parcel A2) | Seaport

I'm stupidly excited for this one. I like the design, I like the gateway to the Seaport effect for vehicles coming off of I-90, and I like what it'll do for pedestrian connectivity in the area. I know it's not quite an apples to apples comparison because the footprint is more irregular and the...

    Braintree infill and small developments

I'm fascinated by proposals for hundreds of apartments at malls (this one, Attleboro, the completed projects at Natick, etc.). It seems to be a trend across the country. Is there big time demand for these residences? Are they an effort to save dying malls? Or is it more of a situation where the...

    Maxwell | 35 Garvey Street | Everett

There may be nicer non-luxury developments in the world, but I wouldn't try to draw too many parallels unless they are also being built on similarly underutilized space, are subject to similar zoning laws and permitting processes, and are subject to similar labor and materials costs, etc. I...

    Maxwell | 35 Garvey Street | Everett

Good point. We purely discuss design on this forum, and never other elements of the built environment like urbanism, height, transportation, scale, use of space, etc.

    Maxwell | 35 Garvey Street | Everett

Sure, they're not going to win prizes for their aesthetic or innovative design, but I'm not sure why that's necessarily an issue? They're infinitely better than a lot of the multi-unit residential development we've seen in working class areas over the last 40-50 years. And they're infinitely...

East Boston Infill and Small Developments

It's pretty terrible for biking, as are the double parking bike lanes extending out of the square along Chelsea St. I live nearby and avoid it entirely when I'm biking. It might be excusable if cyclists could access the square directly via the Community Path, but it's not that easy since you...

East Boston Infill and Small Developments

I lied, looks like it's moving again. I notice new doors installed late last week and saw a crew at work this morning. Absolutely, along with something substantial to anchor this corner. There's no reason that the one-story retail spaces should stick around a dense urban square/transit hub...

East Boston Infill and Small Developments

This one's moving fast. This one right around the corner, however, seems to be completely stalled. I've seen very little work on it and I don't think anything has changed since this 9/22 street view shot.

    Lego HQ Moving to Boston

I'd also assume that means "downtown," but could it be that they just mean "not Cambridge, Somerville, or the 'burbs?" If Vegas was taking bets, my money is easily on the Seaport. But I could also see South Station Tower, Fenway Center, or even Boston Landing.

Bulfinch Crossing | Congress Street Garage | West End

No, I think they assumed it would be quicker. But between the high profile accident and the issues with the MBTA tunnels, it probably makes more sense to take it really slow.

Bulfinch Crossing | Congress Street Garage | West End

From today. I’m not sure what exactly they’re doing, but they’re doing something that looks like it’s related to the garage demo.

    116 Waterman Street | E. Side Providence

Can't get past the paywall, but are the "concerns" related to the existing structures that would need to be demolished?

View Boston (Observatory) | Prudential Tower | Back Bay

^Yeah, I think there's a pretty dramatic difference between the people on forums like this diving into the weeds on this stuff and the real-world experience of the average person. As a kid I used to think the Pru was taller because of the antenna. And the line between a structural spire...

View Boston (Observatory) | Prudential Tower | Back Bay

This is peak nerd, but the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habit uses "height to highest occupied floor" as one of its three primary criteria for standardized measurement of tall buildings. It's not that they're comparing the number of floors, but that the measurement of the building is from...
