    The Orange Line Thread

The signage on the Orange Line indeed needs improvement, but it's not nearly as bad as the darkness and the minimal signage in the Washington Metro. I had the occasion recently to ride their Orange Line from New Carrollton into the District. The PA system was not working. Because of the...

    Triple-decker vs Three-decker

In this long thread, no one mentioned how the floors (never "storeys") are designated. It's bottom, middle, and top - never 1st, 2nd, 3rd. The landlord usually lived on the middle floor.

    T Station Design

If we're not limited to current stations, I would pick (1) the original Ashmont, (2) original Harvard, and (3) pre-1949 Dudley.

    Courthouse Station

I agree that it's a great-looking station. BUT why are benches made of stone? One freezes one's ass in the winter. Also, what's the purpose of constantly running the east end escalators? They don't lead to an exit.

Great idea! And it would improve the appearance of brick "plaza".

    The New Retail Thread

I remember when the building housed the Museum of Natural History. Judging from what's in Restoration's catalogue, the new store will have -- at least for me -- lots of nice stuff to look at but not buy.

    Renaissance Seaport Hotel

To amplify a previous comment, written in haste. I recently had occasion to spend a night at the Renaissance. I agree that the lobby spaces and public areas are beautiful. And the rooms are well-designed and -furnished. I especially appreciated the lighting in my room; many hotel rooms...

No 13th floor! That kind of nonsense should not be tolerated in the 21st century.

Seaport Neighborhood - Infill and Discussion

Re: South Boston Seaport The Silver Line has more frequent service -- at least in rush hours -- than the Blue/Orange/Red. What makes it so in efficient is that it goes only to South Station. People on the Green and Orange Lines have to change twice. People on the Blue Line have to change...

Silver Line - Phase III / BRT in Boston

Re: Madison Seaport Hotel The Silver Line is fine if you want to go the South Station. But getting to the Back Bay is a pain in the ass! Silver to Red to Green. To make the Seaport more T-accessible build a ramp from the South Station loop up to Essex (or whatever street you hit), then run...

Re: Driven By Customer 'Service' Parte Dos The traffic situation would be improved if the E cars did not stop on the street-running portion of Huntington Avenue. Run them non-stop to the intersection of Huntington and South Huntington (where there's enough room for a trackside platform) and...

Four Seasons Tower @ CSC | 1 Dalton Street | Back Bay

Re: New tower at Christian Science Church Plaza JohnAKeith mentioned some street renamings. The streets off St. Botolph Street run in alphabetical order from "A" to "I", but instead on an "E" street, we have West Newton. Was there ever an "E" street planned?

    Natick Mall Expansion

About a year ago, I clicked on some ads for TV zappers which turn off TVs in public places such as airports. Strictly illegal in the US, of course. I'm often tempted to buy one but, if it doesn't work, you have no recourse. There are also cell phone zappers - equally illegal but very tempting.
