    Melnea Cass Blvd

I think this was largely about the trees, but it was also made much worse by the broken trust between the community and the City. The City would meet with the community but didn't seem to be truly listening. The consultants were not coming up with good designs and the city staff completely...

General MBTA Topics (Multi Modal, Budget, MassDOT)

There's nothing citizens hate more than when public officials blatantly lie to them. It's even worse when the public officials try to wrap the lies in data and process. All most people ask for is honesty and transparency. Tell us the options, the real costs, and the tradeoffs. Let's consider...

Prism Apts. | 50 Rogers St | Kendall Square | Cambridge

I don't know why we can just have consistent regular windows. Architects keep trying to make a "statement" by throwing in some asymmetry or random panels. It's really not necessary. I do like the overall look though. The color and the brickwork is really nice.

Midtown Hotel Redevelopment | 220 Huntington Avenue | Back Bay

The Christian Science churched owned all the property in that block during the development of that area in the 1960s, EXCEPT for 1 Cumberland. So when the Midtown Hotel was build, they just built around it. I don't know why there were not able to acquire it though.

MBTA Fare System (Charlie, AFC 2.0, Zone, Discounts)

IIRC, Lechmere only has one faregate for each side of the station.

100 Shawmut Avenue | South End

I'm not sure if the South End Landmarks Commission weighed in on this project, but in general they LOVE it when a modern building built "on top of" a historic building is set back and appears like it's behind it. They don't like it when architects try to extend the original building. They want...

Oh look another big empty glass lobby.

Hurley Building Redevelopment | 19 Staniford St | West End

Here's the dilemma: This whole block should never have been urban renewaled to begin with. What was built does have architectural merit from a pure artistic standpoint, but from a "makes the city better" standpoint, the entire thing is a giant fail. The question then is do you preserve something...

Rutherford Avenue to go on a diet!

Ooh I did not realize that they changed them in 2018. So yes it is very possible that we are both right!

Rutherford Avenue to go on a diet!

That is not correct. The neighborhood was considering asking for MORE parking by creating angled parking, and painting the bike lane would have eliminated that possibility. > “Some of our businesses on Main Street have been closing because people couldn’t park,” said Cunha. And the neighborhood...

City Hall Plaza Revamp | Government Center

This just proves that just because someone is famous doesn't mean that people like their work. I do think the main issue here though is that it's a Federal building and the site around it is basically inactive or inaccessible because of "security."

Winthrop Center | 115 Winthrop Square | Financial District

I will never understand how one thing will be approved and something completely different is then built.

Harriet Tubman House | 566 Columbus Avenue | South End

Yeah I didn't really understand the love of the building. I think it's probably more of who occupied it rather than the design of the building itself. The new building is definitely a much nicer and more sensible design.

Rutherford Avenue to go on a diet!

Yeah that bike lane which didn't result in the removal of any parking whatsoever annoyed the neighbors because they weren't properly "consulted" before its installation.

    MBTA Buses & Infrastructure

When the Board asked about using IMC buses, the Engineering department replied that they had not analyzed whether they could run on the system. The big question is why they weren't asked to do this sooner. The Engineering department and even Secretary Pollack both have a real distain for...

I-90 Interchange Improvement Project & West Station | Allston

At-grade is better than viaduct, even though the park space is less, because: - Easier to create safe, appealing bike/ped bridge(s) to the river going over at-grade roadways - Traffic noise at-grade is less than on viaduct (fewer grade changes for trucks to navigate, traffic noise is not spread...

I-90 Interchange Improvement Project & West Station | Allston

The latest at-grade plan has a wide boardwalk over the river. So pedestrians and bicyclists will have a lot of space. Would I prefer an at-grade solution with fewer lanes where peds and bikes don't need a boardwalk? Yes. But I'll take the current at-grade plan over an ugly viaduct any day.

I-90 Interchange Improvement Project & West Station | Allston

The amount of time this project is taking is absurd, but it all could have been avoided if MassDOT had simply listened to the community in the first place and chosen an at-grade option early on. It's the cheapest option and provides the most flexibility for a future where Soldiers Field Rd...
