Evidently the proponent of the Boston Bypass passed away in 2018. Some Globe articles from 1989 (!) At least some people took him seriously: Power generation thru "humps on the road" and "summer villas" suspended from the bridges! A modern viewpoint?

IIRC the proponent of the B.B. was a potter who made and sold novelty Boston Baked Bean pots from a shop in the North End. :) I thought he was some crazed abutter wanting to move construction noise to anywhere but near him, but those B.B. flyers started turning up again years after the Big Dig...

This, I imagine? From Inventing the Charles River, pg. 340. The book talks about this idea (all buildings) being mentioned and discussed in the Globe amongst other possibilities. They've even gotten rid of that crummy Cross st. parking lot in the image.

No. someone assembled the apartment building and the houses you see into one parcel and razed them all for a parking lot in the late 50s. You can see that the apartment building is very narrow, including only five units, and so maybe there was less money to be had at the time in rental income...

FWIW this is what used to be on the site before it became a parking lot in the 50s:
