Wouldn't Amtrak have some interest in this project as a means to relieve congestion at South Station? Eliminating the Needham line would open up a bunch of rush hour slots, I would think.

The Haverhill line map is sobering also. Was it intended to remove all the grade crossings out to Reading when it was planned to extend the Orange Line there?

What 'signals and systems' improvements does this refer to? Modern PTC for Red and Orange?
Who will operate this service? Surely it will be a 2 hour journey or such?
