165 Washington Ave | Northern Burner Supply Redevelopment | Portland

I think your first order of business is to take off that siding and see if the sign is intact underneath! Maybe cut it out and save it for a feature in the new building.

Given the uncertain situation around 142 Free St., is it probable that they've signed a firm contract with the firm they selected from the contest?

A passenger lounge at PQI is a place where they corner you and force you to pick a bushel of potatoes before they give you your boarding pass.

Port of Portland | Working waterfront and future developments

Was this an official rendering or one you made? I am surprised that the cold storage building wasn't included.

The Casco | 201 Federal Street | Portland

Sadly, Portland lacks substantive neon. I miss the Merrill "rolling tire" sign that used to adorn their HQ on Forest Ave. and which later was on the cargo port visible from the Veteran's Bridge.

A quick google says no, there are no customs requirements for flights between San Juan and the mainland US.

I wouldn't count Keflavik out as pure fantasy (caveat needing the FIS facility). Paul had Icelandair on his radar way back when they first built the latest terminal expansion, and Icelandair also has (or had) a close relationship with Auto Europe. Portland could theoretically even be a...

Personally, I'd like FLL (1330) as that's our preferred cruise departure port. and once we get the FIS I'd look for KEF at 2310. My first guess was MIA-OXD. but the latter is general aviation only. So... CHS-CRW (Charleston to Charleston)?

I would say that the ship rigging is far more subtle than the taxidermy :) . But in general, I am disappointed that they are changing the blue to gray; I liked the accent color.

Is the new gray color scheme out front replacing the blue? I've always liked the blue supports for the awning; they look like ship's rigging (presumably intentionally).

Infill and Small Developments | Portland

So, I found the 1924 property record, and it does indeed look like the right side is the remnant of a once 3-story building (counting the attic), while in the photo the left "bunker" side appears to be a yard. From the Facebook post I found, it seems that the Legion post was very much a social...

Infill and Small Developments | Portland

I have the impression that that building was all there ever was. I went looking to find out what happened to the Legion post (I found a tribute on Facebook that said they lost their charter last spring), and that post as well as the real estate listing called it "the bunker".

    Portland's Franklin Street redesign

Something like this? :giggle: A circle at Commercial and Franklin might help some of the traffic from e.g. Portland Foreside or the cruise buses, but it probably won't affect Wex since they park a block up in Ocean Gateway, and I believe the hotel and condos exit via Fore St.

My uncle used to live in the Manchester area before the freeway was built. I'll happily drive the new 101 over the old country road version that had warnings telling you to turn on your headlights and signs counting collisions like McDonald's used to count billions of hamburgers. Plus, save the...

The Casco | 201 Federal Street | Portland

That was some thick fog last night - you couldn't see downtown from the Boulevard for a while. But I've always liked signs-in-fog pics.

They need an Executive Director who isn't fixated on the idea that 142 Free is some sort of antebellum plantation house, first.

    Portland's Franklin Street redesign

Since I'm the one that effectively thumbs-downed the prior post, I'll give the obvious answer (being completely aware that my opinions on these issues are not shared by most of this community): not wanting to see Franklin redeveloped.
