    Crazy Transit Pitches

I think part of the issue is that this thread has a very narrow path to walk. Too simply and the pitch might as well go in Reasonable Transit Pitches. Too crazy and F-Line is fully justified in his criticisms. And in the middle ground is a bunch of ideas that have already been thought of and...

    Green Line Reconfiguration

ceo just seems to be trying to understand the limitations of the currently-under-construction infrastructure and what work it would take to patch in an UR connection. Unless your posts here constitute the FEIR justification itself what's the point in shutting them down every time they try to ask...

    Underground station layouts

The Ruggles platform has always confused me. Why is it so long and why is it not open? I've seen multiple trains embarking/disembarking past the barriers. Also, do you mean that the NEC platforms for Back Bay are 1750ft long, or that if you measure from their east end to the Worcester line's...

    Logan Airport Capital Projects

Isn't everything a pipe dream until it actually starts getting done? The first step towards that is thinking about it and starting the planning process.

MBTA Commuter Rail (Operations, Keolis, & Short Term)

There are plans in the sense that things are being studied right now, however it is unlikely that anything substantial will happen for a long time. Currently the T has an RFI out for an EMU that implies plans to electrify to Salem as well as the Fairmount Line. In addition one of the Commuter...

South Station Tower | South Station Air Rights | Downtown

I can't watch with audio right now, but the construction progress video confuses me. It looks like they're shortening a few platforms? Are they eliminating the current station lobby and moving it into the newly-shortened-platform area?

Regional New England Rail (Amtrak & State DOT & NEC)

Do you have a link to the station layouts/study? I've never been able to track them/it down.

    Crazy Transit Pitches

Oh, right. Medford/Tufts. So assuming neither terminal has room for anything to go wrong, I'm a bit more dubious that we can send multiple full schedule branches to the ends of the lines.

    Crazy Transit Pitches

Openstreetmap seems to imply that there will be tail-tracks at College Ave but not Union Square. It's been a while since I looked at the station designs but given the whole "Substation in front of the tracks" thing I would doubt they're there. So this probably isn't too big of an issue, then...

    Crazy Transit Pitches

What's the tph capacity of the new terminals? If they've only got the two station tracks to turn on, wouldn't they be limited to some function of 60*2/(time it takes to turn a train) tph? Does that start to impeded sending multiple branches to each terminal?

New Red and Orange Line Cars

1410 appeared on newtrains.today just now. Has been at Wellington for quite a while, so I'm not sure it's actually in service.

New Red and Orange Line Cars

Same. I'm hoping the rumor is correct, because having these trains out for a month is definitely a bad look, even from a "These things always happen" perspective. It tells me this isn't a trivial problem to solve, and will probably require changes to the manufacturing process. Hopefully the...

New Red and Orange Line Cars

I heard reports that they'd rigged up a solution to the "unusual noise" but I can't find a link. Anyone know anything about that?

I can't even remember what we're arguing about at this point.

    Seaport Transportation

Ah. I was just aware they'd augmented the fleet and assumed the new buses would be on that route. Good to know!

    Seaport Transportation

Was it an SL3 bus? I want to say they procured some battery buses for that route.

    Seaport Transportation

This is the one I don't get. Removing seats lowers capacity? Why does an arbitrary metric that applies to normal buses need to apply to the Silver Line? I mean, I get why (the Silver Line is a bus), but why does it need to? Just because that's how things are now doesn't mean they can't change...

    Crazy Transit Pitches

Ah! Excellent, then. I agree that Boston will need something beyond the current downtown rectangle (sort of a pentagon?) of line crossings, and that seems a good place to go with it. Hitting Back Bay and Kendall, as well as JFK would be an excellent connection proposition. I still think that...
