MBTA Commuter Rail (Operations, Keolis, & Short Term)

DCR will never, ever go for a CR stop at Walden Pond. The place has serious erosion problems from overuse as it is, and because the stop would be on the other side of the pond from the beach, a CR stop would make the problem much worse.

Regional Rail (RUR) & North-South Rail Link (NSRL)

It's important to remember that the NSRL itself requires electrification, because diesel trains won't be able to handle the required grades. So before the NSRL can open, at least the lines that are slated to run through will have to be electrified.

And yet somehow people "lollygagging" on road drawbridges that have sidewalks doesn't seem to be much of a problem, at least in my experience. Generally when people see the flashing lights and hear the horns they get off the bridge right smart.

Roads and Highways General Development Thread

Kind of annoyed that they're not doing anything about the dangerous crossover between the Main St to I-93 ramp and MA16 westbound, behind the police station.

Biking the Boston 'Burbs (Trails, MDC, & Towns beyond Hubway area)

I know the Lexington Chief of Police has testified to this effect more than once. For that matter, I grew up there, and when the MMB went in a lot of the abutters put up fences between the path and their backyards. Within a few years, most of those fences had gates installed in them.

    Underground station layouts

I'm having trouble making sense of this. Is this the Green Line station or is it the mess of former track alignments between Haymarket and North Station? If you click through to the original, it has a higher-resolution version.

    Chelsea Branch Railroad Remains/Route

That's great, I'm looking forward to seeing it. I was sort of half-assedly working on something like this a while ago, basically cleaning up the MassGIS railroads data set, but didn't get very far.

    Reasonable Transit Pitches

Those two tracks would have to be used for the Urban Ring station. See my analysis of this here, map here.

    Reasonable Transit Pitches

The problem here is that Urban Ring will have to eat one of the Orange Line's track locations, forcing OL to move over one and leave no room for a CR platform. Remember that the track locations cannot be moved, because of the supports for the elevated highway, and the corridor can't be widened...

Biking the Boston 'Burbs (Trails, MDC, & Towns beyond Hubway area)

Apropos of gaps in rail trails, Belmont Citizens Forum is out with a detailed article on the plans for Phase 2 of the Belmont Community Path (their stretch of the MCRT).

MBTA Commuter Rail (Operations, Keolis, & Short Term)

Well, that would be irritating. Battleship Cove (the museum) has poor visitation as museum ships go, because there's basically nothing else to see or do in Fall River other than Lizzie Borden's house. Having an eponymous commuter rail station right there certainly couldn't hurt.

MBTA Commuter Rail (Operations, Keolis, & Short Term)

Isn't the last stop on the Fall River line supposed to be Battleship Cove, not Fall River Depot? (And why is it called that instead of plain old Fall River?)

Is "headphones" some obscure bit of transit terminology, or autocorrectese for "headhouse"? :-)

MBTA Red Line / Blue Line Connector

Last time was before the Minuteman Bikeway was built, however. Before that, you might have gotten away with a surface line partially in trench, but these days nobody in Lexington is going to want to trade the MMB for the Red Line. (I grew up there.) So it's all-tunnel or nothing. I've never...
