Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

That's a bog-standard Hy-Rail rig. There should be one on the rear wheels too, though.

Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

The grade transition where it joins the existing path is kind of awkward; hopefully they'll make that a little smoother. Nice to see the pavement there, even if we won't be able to ride it for almost another year.

    General Infrastructure

I live a few blocks from here and this rotary is a nasty heinous clusterfuck at rush hour; I generally go to some lengths to avoid driving through it. And it's mostly because of the traffic lights. These changes will be a huge improvement and I hope they make them permanent.

Fast bridge replacement actually takes longer start to finish than conventional methods, because you have to build everything ahead of time. It's just the actual installation that's faster.

I've noticed the Type 7s truck hunting on the Lechmere viaduct going well under 40.

Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

The path is now graded right up to the end of the existing path by the Lowell St bridge; I expect that'll see pavement shortly.

Interesting. When I was taking the Acela a couple times a year (about a decade ago), I was struck by how rough the ride was in the 150mph stretches in MA. I assumed at the time it was lousy track maintenance, but was it more a problem with the A1's suspensions?

    MBTA Buses & Infrastructure

People are pretty good about the painted bus/bike lane on Broadway in Somerville, even though there sure was a lot of wailing and gnashing of teeth when it first went in.

    Reasonable Transit Pitches

What's really irksome about Sullivan is that it was built that way in the first place. Clearly the brief was "this station is for cars and buses only, and fuck the dense urban residential neighborhood that it's right next to".

VIA Rail Canada is out with a proposal for "High Frequency Rail" from Québec City to Toronto, with 200km/h service on lots of trains per day. They kind of imply that it'll be electrified, and it sounds like it'll use dedicated tracks on existing ROW, which I'm guessing is why it's not true HSR...

Bill Russell Bridge | North Washington St.

That bridge was originally built a few years ago; it connects to the 2-way cycletrack on Atlantic Ave. It was temporarily removed for the duration of this project.

MBTA Commuter Rail (Operations, Keolis, & Short Term)

Just to clarify, that estimate is for the third track between Wellesley and Framingham, which also necessitates major work on several stations.

That's a first coat. They'll put down at least one more.

I'm sure that's much less unstable than it looks. How are they getting the cranes off the ship?

Regional New England Rail (Amtrak & State DOT & NEC)

I had the sense that most transloading at Worcester and West Springfield was taking long-haul containers and piggybacks off of trains and putting them on trucks for local delivery, not driving them in on the Pike in order to put them on trains in Worcester. Is that really that big a share of...

Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

The problem is that the tracks have to be right next to each other going under the bridge (or they'd have to rebuild it, and it's only about 15 years old), and then they need room for the tracks to separate to accommodate the platform. And going through Maxwell's Green would be just as long a...
