Cambria Hotel | 515 Somerville Ave | Union Sq | Somerville

When I've lived/worked in buildings impacted by large events, its the responsibility of building management/owners to communicate it to tenants and stuff does get lost in the churn. If your talking specifically about this past weekend's closure, that was Somerville Open Studios, a city-wide...

Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

Why would they say the platform is 20'x225' if a portion of that isn't included in the current scope of work? I've got no sense of scale from the roll-plan... to my eye nothing indicates that the platform couldn't be 225' long with the extension... well... extending beyond that.

Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

According to public meeting docs, the Union Square platform is 225' long and the type 10 RFP has the preferred length at ~113' tip to tip. Not sure if theres any requirement for a margin, but it looks like they're accounting for it.

Remediation work at Conway Park just kicked off too.

    Grounding the McGrath

Would it be fair to say that the random, occasional bumper-to-bumper traffic you'd see on Prospect either north our southbound is caused by overflow/issues on 93?

Union Square Somerville Infill and Small Developments

Its a Peter Quinn building... feels like they've had a hand in like 75% of new 5+ unit buildings in Somerville and Cambridge.

I mean given the big ole hole that blew open on the 4th floor during the last wind storm....

Union Square Somerville Infill and Small Developments

This feels like it's stretching a bit calling this Union Square, but its definitely adjacent. Yesterday night there was the first community meeting about the former La Ronga Bakery site at 599 Somerville Ave. Only a few massing diagrams at this point, but they did include some "look and feel"...

    Urbx "Skyscraper" Supermarket, Seaport

Hmm, the ground level, especially with the small fleet of delivery vehicles, reminds me of the small takuhaibin depots scattered about in Japanese neighborhoods.

Regional New England Rail (Amtrak & State DOT & NEC)

Not sure if this should go here or in the "Other peoples' rail" thread, but Amtrak is adding (or re-adding?) sleeper cars to overnight NE Regional trains in both directions starting April 5th. Timings look convenient if your doing BOS-WAS (departing 9:30 pm, arriving 7AM)

    Boynton Yards | 99-101 South/808 Windsor | Somerville

Just breathe y’all, it’s one building as part of a massive development. It’s not make or break. That said, I feel like it’s really made an impact on the square, or at least a big visual impact when walking around the square. Feels like you can see it from everywhere.

Logan Airport Flights and Airlines Discussion

FWIW, they were also awarded London slots: 14x weekly at Gatwick and 28x weekly at Stansted

    Somerville Infill and Small Developments

I wonder how a future square-side entrance might be added to the station... the original design had an entrance right by where the substation is now. Hope the redesign kept it in mind because it’s a pretty steep 900 feet to go from the station to the center of the square.

Nubian Ascends (Blair Lot) | 2164 Washington | Roxbury

I love it... although it does kinda remind me of the Longaburger Basket building in Ohio. In a good way. Interested to see what becomes of the market... Will it be more like Bow Market or the BPM? Guess it all depends on what the neighborhood needs... although walking through the BPM the other...

Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

Ugh, the fact that this station will only have a single entrance and no direct access to either Prospect St or Boynton Yards boggles the mind.

Cambria Hotel | 515 Somerville Ave | Union Sq | Somerville

It's not super charming or a destination neighborhood, but I wouldn't call Somerville Ave a "very crappy".

@maxdatabook - FWIW, Cambria is a chain. I think they're around the same level as Aloft, so trendy and modern, but not exactly luxury. I reckon the fact that a chain is going in probably explains why it doesn't seem to be stalling out like it's friend on Beacon.

Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

I was reading through the Union Square Revitalization Plan and I noticed that apparently Somerville either has or plans to negotiate air rights over the Fitchburg line. Is this just something that you do to cover bases when building next to surface transit tracks?

Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

Is there any particular reason, beyond cost, that the project seems to shift from the pastel green painted steel used for the areas around Lechmere to the brown (unpainted?) steel being used for the junction and flyovers?

They eliminated those stairs/elevators as part of the redesign. If we do get access from the bridge, that's going to have to come from US2.
