    Bones of Boston

Great post, and great idea for a thread. It's amazing how many places like the kind you've described have actually "emerged" into better urbanism in the past few years. Barry's Corner, Dudley, and Broadway "square" (is there actually even a proper name for it?) to name just a few. Cleveland...

    Downtown Crossing/Financial District | Discussion

I wish the name "Downtown Crossing" would go away. It sounds like a strip mall you'd find in Aventura. While we're at it, "Government Center" also stinks. Oh, and just about every new street name since 1985, with special contempt reserved for anything calling itself a "Drive"

    Downtown Crossing/Financial District | Discussion

Black is an interesting trend. Have you noticed that nearly all new window installs use black muntins and sashes? I would never do that on my house... I think it's a passing fad.

    128 Widening

The Kendrick Street exit has almost certainly taken traffic off of Needham Street. But, now Nahanton Street (the continuation of Kendrick in Newton) is backed up in rush hour sometimes all the way down to Dedham Street. These parts of Newton used to not have much in the way of traffic at all...

Encore Boston Harbor Casino | 1 Broadway | Everett

I think that for most of East Somerville, a GLX station will be a shorter walk than the Assembly station, given that Assembly is almost at the furthest point from the residential neighborhoods. Prioritizing the connection for pedestrians across the river, given the yuge new development and...

    Reasonable Transit Pitches

In that case, some wayfinding signs at the Dean intersection would be useful, to point people towards the D line. I used to live there and thought it would be amazing if they had a digital countdown at the C line Dean stop for both the C and D trains so you could optimize your choice of lines...

    Reasonable Transit Pitches

I agree on Brandon Hall but not Dean, which seems well-placed at a major intersection. How about Hawes Street? That stop always P'd me off.

Kenmore Square North (WHOOP) | 533-541 Commonwealth Ave | Fenway

Hey sorry, I didn't follow. What about this is exactly why Trump was elected? Spoiler alert: the swamp's not exactly getting drained. -- Anyway, I doubt it's worth giving up. Write the Herald, write the Globe, write city Councillors, mayor's office... your voice matters.

Kenmore Square North (WHOOP) | 533-541 Commonwealth Ave | Fenway

Trying to get my head around why this is so shit... Preservation/Rehab/Facedectomy - Universally good ...to preserve pre-war urbanism. Going tall and flashy to give Kenmore a better and bigger sense of space - Perhaps not everyone's agreed, but I would be on board with that. Boring brick turd...

Regional Rail (RUR) & North-South Rail Link (NSRL)

Re: North-South Rail Link It's a good pitch, and even more broadly I think the "branding" of NSRL aims too narrowly. The words North-South-Rail-Link simply evoke the poor NYC Amtrak passengers trying to get to Maine, who now need to lug their bags into an uber from South to North stations...

The Hub on Causeway (née TD Garden Towers) | 80 Causeway Street | West End

To people not familiar with Boston who see this, it will read as follows: - Industrial buildings, those must be old - Oh look, this atrium passageway with these trusses- must have been added later. Clashes a bit, but it makes for a really creative and cool space, not to mention a convenient way...

    General Infrastructure

I grant you that steps to nowhere is a bit silly, but it does send the message "hey, look! you can hang out in DTX even if you're not sketchy, and look, it's actually a bit boojie!"

    General Infrastructure

Are there plans to make this permanent - and look/feel permanent? Stat, I don't see this as any less than the NYC interventions. If anything, actually, I think this goes further by truly creating an entirely new pedestrian plaza. Much of what NYC has done in the last few years has been...

Logan Airport Flights and Airlines Discussion

Probably very much off-topic, but I've been noticing lots of new flights and possibly new airlines at T.F. Green. Anyone have the pulse on what's been cooking there?

    The New Retail Thread

I get it, but the reporter turned a potentially interesting comparison into an Aesop's fable with the moral that people of all stripes are nice. Barf?

    The New Retail Thread

^ I remember back when the Globe was worth reading (does that make me old?) Honestly, as an assignment, this wasn't a bad "local flavor" reporting idea... but executed with all the nuance and finesse of a middle school newspaper. Cringeworthy.

    Revere Infill and Small Developments

Thanks to everyone for answering my sincere curiosity about Revere - quite an education I've got in the previous 10 or so posts. I'm still knocking my head on the wall trying to figure out why the last few stops on the Blue Line aren't considered a premiere urban beach neighborhood in the...
