    Brookline Infill and Small Developments

But where have the owners been since rental vacancy in Brookline has started hovering around 0% ... was that 15 or maybe 20 years ago? Longer? Surely they're getting inundated with calls from hungry developers. Why so little movement?

    Brookline Infill and Small Developments

Sorry for the tangent, but I think it's relevant to Harvard Street... can someone explain to me the origin and economics of the concept of 1-story "taxpayers" ? I get that for owners it's advantageous to keep tax liability down, but I never understood why keeping tax liability low should in an...

Northern Avenue Bridge Fort Point Channel

Contrary to my usual slant, I don't lament cars on this bridge - as long as it's just two lanes (or fewer). More connectivity for any and all modes to the Seaport is a net good.

Northern Avenue Bridge Fort Point Channel

Calling it now: This bridge will be to the Ponte Vecchio what the Greenway is to La Rambla (or was it the High Line... either way...)

    Logan Airport Capital Projects

I get it. One of my ideas has been to repurpose the HOV lanes of the Fort Point I-90 tunnel as a direct continuation of eastbound rail into the Seaport, gets you right onto the Track 61 alignment... and from there a potential rail tunnel alongside the TWT could bring it to Logan... and just...

    Logan Airport Capital Projects

To state the obvious, geography makes this extremely difficult. Easy to do for Heathrow, Gatwick, O'Hare, etc. Hard to do on a harbor peninsula. Maybe a third Williams tunnel for transit could have somewhat solved this, but even then it would more likely have been for a GL/rapid transit branch...

Four Seasons Tower @ CSC | 1 Dalton Street | Back Bay

I was walking south down the Southwest Corridor and as I got to West Newton I was awestruck by this. Anyone with a camera and a good eye should flock to that view - it's the first time I've really seen the height so easily comparable to the Pru towers. It was particularly startling as, because...

    Chelsea Infill and Small Developments

Thanks. I still don’t understand what the optics of fake apartments are, and it would still seem like “incentivizing” a beautification of these sites would involve public money at stake either way. Anyway, I defer to you as you seem to have your ear to the ground about this

    Chelsea Infill and Small Developments

I’m confused. We shouldn’t do nice things in poor communities for fear of making poor people feel bad? I’m not actually trying to be snarky.

    NYC Architecture and Development

It was similarly really quite surreal here in Boston as well. 7PM as the storm moved out we were left with a greenish hazy glow - the world looked like a Monet painting - and then the green hazy glow broke into a neon sunset.

Back to the important questions. Will we still be getting the $30 million Popeye statue?

Kenmore Square North (WHOOP) | 533-541 Commonwealth Ave | Fenway

One of the things that would help this entire area is the grounding of the Bowker and the downgrading of Storrow (or is it still SFR at this point - whatever). Actual riverfront would be a draw, for both visitors and real residents. The fact that on this stretch of riverfront the best that we...

Kenmore Square North (WHOOP) | 533-541 Commonwealth Ave | Fenway

Baseball is a sport of nostalgia. For every one person who goes to Fenway who's really read up on the day's game and thoroughly wants to follow it, five others go for the "experience" - which often comes down "I remember being here as a kid!" The Citgo sign isn't sacred, exactly, but it's a part...

    The New Retail Thread

Sit-down Mexican restaurants of the "standard" variety - by which I mean beans, rice, cheese, tortilla, guacamole, salsa/mole and fillings, in different combos according to the dish - never, ever seem like a good value to me. $15 for an entree that has all the same ingredients as an $8 Chipotle...

Kenmore Square North (WHOOP) | 533-541 Commonwealth Ave | Fenway

There is literally a parking lot facing Kenmore across Deerfield Street. If Kenmore north needs a flashy new glass cube, build it there. Leave this corner alone ffs

^ Yeah. Why would they do that? Also, correct me if I'm wrong but the tree roots are going to muddle up all the surrounding pavers, no?

Regional Rail (RUR) & North-South Rail Link (NSRL)

Re: North-South Rail Link ^ Very intelligent post. So long as the Fed is doing its job of not allowing the US currency to be devalued, and so long as the dollar remains a major world reserve currency, then yes - money can and should be "created" for value-added projects like these. Reaganist...

    Silver Line to Chelsea

Seems to me like they could simply improve the service by boosting headways between Chelsea and Airport with two or three more buses going back and forth making that limited run. As anyone who takes the SL1 has known, the Blue Line transfer will be much faster to most parts of downtown than...

Arsenal Yards | Arsenal Mall Redevelopment | Watertown

Funny that the Home Depot and huge surface lot stays. It's also too bad they couldn't do something more with the waterfront, which leaves me a bit puzzled.
