Re: Parcel 9 - The Greenway Both of you are correct. The parcel 6 ramps are finished, meaning fully functional for vehicular traffic. They are unfinished because there is still exposed rebar, temporary fencing, and some other incidentals that have not been installed.

To the left of the old hardware store is the MBTA Operations Control Center and to the right is an NSTAR substation. Certainly not the best use of downtown real estate, but those three buildings are adjacent to a Big Dig off ramp, so it's not a total loss.

Needless to say this plaza is dead from November to May and on weeknights and weekends. I don't think it's really a huge 'success'. It's just serves the office lunchtime crowd.

The tables belong to International Place (Chiofaro). This plaza acts sort of as an extension of the buildings food court. For being totally in shadows for most of the day, this area sees a lot of activity.

Ron, the so-called chessboard you mention is actually the 'circle within a square' design and is located just in front of the Chinatown gate and has some sort of symbolic meaning in Chinese culture. It's not at all a chessboard.
