If You Were God/Goddess | Transit & Infrastructure Sandbox

I don't think you're seriously considering the problems of jetpack parking. They take up less space than a car, sure, but for 100 million people!? We'd be turning our cities into vast parking lots for Single Occupancy Jetpack parking, and that's when I put my foot down!

If You Were God/Goddess | Transit & Infrastructure Sandbox

I totally agree you couldn't skip Philadelphia. But why does it seem impossible to track through Philly? This is a God-Mode thread and a question with a 100 year time frame. It is possible to dig a north-south train tunnel through the whole length of the city. They've done it before.

Roads and Highways General Development Thread

Any ideas how much it would cost to just change this to an intersection with a traffic light? Part of the problem here is the plans are 40% over budget already. That article says total cost to MDOT is looking to be ~$118 million. It seems like we could save most of a hundred million dollars...

Franklin Park - White Stadium Renovation

Weird. The Parks and Recreation Commission is now holding up the plans. They voted to approve the design, but the required demolition plans didn't pass. https://www.bostonglobe.com/2024/07/29/metro/white-stadium-parks-commission-vote/

Evolving use of Office and other Space

Wu and other Boston pols have been focusing on the outlying neighborhoods because this seems like the kind of minor change that might actually pass in the State House. Geographically restricting the licenses hopefully means less pushback from the downtown liquor license holders, because the new...

Acela & Amtrak NEC (HSR BOS-NYP-WAS and branches only)

Jeez, I hope someone's posted that before. I totally agree, that's an incredible resource! One of the really in-depth case transit studies they did was the Green Line Extension, which is absolutely worth reading to see how it took so long and cost so much. I didn't notice they have a whole new...

Potential Exelon Mystic Station Redevelopment | Everett

Thanks for that. That's helpful for understanding your basis for calling Wu's spokesperson a liar. I think most people (myself included) read her statement to mean they were still waiting on details that were relevant and useful for Boston. In that case, the agreement you point to isn't really...

Potential Exelon Mystic Station Redevelopment | Everett

"Renders" are not "details." They are non-binding artistic impressions of what a stadium might look like. Boston is hoping to get the details that are actually relevant for them. Boston's main concern, which they have said over and over, is transportation for 25,000 people getting in and out of...

Potential Exelon Mystic Station Redevelopment | Everett

Thanks for that. But that whole article seems to be trying to hint at this narrative that Wu is blocking things, but never points to her actually doing anything. If this reporter had sources telling them that Wu or Boston was working behind the scenes to kill this part of the bill, they would...

Potential Exelon Mystic Station Redevelopment | Everett

You're spinning some weird conspiracy theory to explain why Wu would oppose the Rev's stadium, but I still haven't seen one shred of evidence she is actually in opposition. She's not publicly blocking it. I haven't seen reports of her working behind the scenes to block it. There was a public...

Potential Exelon Mystic Station Redevelopment | Everett

I don't understand. I'm "technically" correct? And Wu does not oppose the stadium if you consider the definition of "oppose"? And whatever you're trying to say about White Stadium, I don't follow, but it sounds like you're trying to keep implying she might oppose the Rev's stadium for some...

Could you point me to any info on Mayor Wu opposing the stadium?

Acela & Amtrak NEC (HSR BOS-NYP-WAS and branches only)

To be clear, this isn't some government study done with taxpayer money. This tunnel project is being proposed by a private advocacy group, North Atlantic Rail. And they're not throwing money at a study. This is crayoning with an extremely rough, back-of-the-envelope cost estimate. I'm glad...

Ideas for a new arena for the Boston women's hockey team?

The media facilities isn't really about having space for sports journalists to sit around. It's having the space to set up and take down a whole television studio each game. It's mostly back-of-house stuff, so it's hard to see exactly what's going on, but it's likely a couple dozen people on the...

Ideas for a new arena for the Boston women's hockey team?

Yes, it was that conversation that reminded me that Boston has another sports team playing far outside the city limits. Fortunately for everyone here, I can't think of a way women's hockey could be blocked by smokestack preservation. Crisis averted. For sure. The last women's hockey team from...

Acela & Amtrak NEC (HSR BOS-NYP-WAS and branches only)

Anytime these plans come up, they're light on details. But I think what they're proposing is using the LIRR ROWs, but building new dedicated high speed track on top. So adding new high speed track at ground level where possible, and maybe a viaduct above LIRR tracks in other places. Or something...

Acela & Amtrak NEC (HSR BOS-NYP-WAS and branches only)

One benefit of the Long Island Sound tunnel would be the trains could run a lot faster than trying to speed up the NEC through southwest Connecticut. LIRR to Ronkonkoma then through the tunnel would be a bunch of straightaways where high speed trains could run long stretches at ~200mph. The...

Ideas for a new arena for the Boston women's hockey team?

For those not following, the PWHL recently finished its first season, and it's been by far the best attempt at starting a professional women's hockey league. Boston made it to the finals, but lost in Game 5 (in a best of five series). Everything about the season was a lot of fun, and looked like...

    MA Liquor Laws

Yeah, happy hour would be great. We should quit banning it. Also, the Globe article on the proposed amendments mentions that, currently, non-citizens can't get liquor licenses in this state. I didn't know that. From the article: I try not to swear on this forum, but.... What bigoted horseshit...
