Residential Tower | 41 Lagrange Street | Chinatown

It's good, solid infill that really won't be very visible from anywhere.

Wait, Adolf Loos is wonderful! But taking all of the character out of an existing house because it's quick and easy isn't

Washington Plaza (Whole Foods Redevelopment) | 15 Washington St. | Brighton

As someone who used to drive here from another neighborhood and stopped because the traffic on Washington is so impossible, I think the improvements (reduction in curb cuts) are potentially really great for the neighborhood. Also, they've said they are providing the same number of spaces for...

New England Revolution Stadium | 173 Alford Street | Boston-Everett

We really need regional planning for exactly this reason. The casino development has had major impacts on traffic in Sullivan Square and the redesign of Rutherford Avenue. Projects that profoundly impact neighboring cities/towns need to be assessed for those impacts and need to mitigate them...

J.J. Carroll Redevelopment | Chestnut Hill Avenue | Brighton

I'm looking forward to seeing the landscape go in on this. The various deep setbacks on the buildings seem like great opportunities for lots of planting and usable seating

1400 Boylston Street | Star Market & Gulf | Fenway

I actually think that the Pierce is the focal point and the buildings around it should be supportive. It's a shame that the Pierce is a bit of a dud, but it holds that space.

Lyrik Back Bay | 1001 Boylston Street (Parcel 12) | Back Bay

It's not just the cladding--the massing is off and the public realm is gone. I suspect they are drawing a line in the sand so no one else tries this. Clearly wouldn't work in the US

BPDA Austin Street Parking Lot Development | Charlestown

I like that GIS tool--seems like a great way to start to do more apples to apples comparisons. No pretty pictures to confuse things

Boston Landing | New Balance Complex | Brighton

That's right. There is an approved project from mid-2022, shorter than the original master plan. Boston Landing Hotel Project | Boston Planning & Development Agency (bostonplans.org)

North Station Gateway | 251 Causeway St | Bulfinch Triangle

It's best to ask this kind of question in the "What's happening with project X" thread. It's where you are most likely to get a good answer and it won't bump a thread when there is no new info

Wentworth Mixed-Use Life Sciences Complex | 500 Huntington Ave | Fenway

It seems likely that SGA was part of a team going for the project and not the one that won.

    Grounding the McGrath

Random comment, I've been going through the new intersection in JP where the Casey Overpass was removed. It's a disappointing outcome--it was designed for high speed, moving lots of cars (which is an important par of it's job) but it's made crossing dangerous for bikes and peds. The huge paved...

North End Cross Street Boutique Hotel | 42 Cross Street | North End

One of my favorite websites is Atlascope Boston · Leventhal Map & Education Center You can see on there that between 1928 and 1938 the existing dense street network was opened up. I wonder what the logic was at that time? It looks like a huge change to the city plan--maybe prep for the central...

    Parcel P-12 | 286-290 Tremont St | Chinatown

I'm not usually part of the "make everything 800'" crowd, but this is right in the downtown core it should be higher. I'm assuming they are staying under 120' so they can build it out of light gauge steel and save money. I don't know why there is no financing for housing when we have such a...

Northeastern University - Institutional Master Plan

Of course, but as someone who was involved in taking photos of architecture projects, we would always round up appropriate bodies--interns, people working for the construction team, whoever was around.

Northeastern University - Institutional Master Plan

The building is looking great but it does seem weird that they chose to fill the photos with fairly middle aged men rather than the more mixed group of people who will be using the building.

Lyrik Back Bay | 1001 Boylston Street (Parcel 12) | Back Bay

I don't see a thread for it, but I understand that the Hynes renovation is part of the Parcel 13, 975 Boylston project (across the street from this one). That project has been on and off for as long as I can remember.

Power House | 108 3rd Avenue | Charlestown Navy Yard

I started this, but we probably need a new thread for the NPS plans for its part of the Charlestown Navy Yard. A warehouse building is great for reuse as a museum. It typically has the structural loads and the long spans that benefit that program. While the NPS hasn't shown an actual design...

One Post Office Square Makeover and Expansion | Financial District

Really well stated. Exchange place is cool

    ISQ3 | 22 Drydock Avenue | Seaport

Height =/= a good project. This is bad urbanism--the site plan is weird and there is way too much surface area devoted to loading. Even in the marine park, which is industrial, it could be way better
