But this isn't transit oriented development--these buildings have huge amounts of parking. It's Transit Adjacent Development. You can argue that Commuter Rail doesn't count as transit and the bus service here isn't great (haven't checked the MBTA updates, maybe that will become better).

The Parker Boston (nee LaGrange Tower) | 47-55 LaGrange St. | Downtown

Shame that corner is faceted. If you design curves they should be curved glass and metal.

And wildly overused by developers in the US. We can't have woonerfs here--it's such a specific thing. Here it is shorthand for a car space where people are allowed. (read, we don't have room for a sidewalk so we'll call it a woonerf)

Welcome to lab buildings. The cores are enormous for all of the elevators (tenants want private service elevators to protect intellectual property) and for the amazing amount of duct work they need--so the core will be even larger than this structure.

Well, when the developer wants giant loading docks for the labs and tons of parking people get pushed aside. It's depressing--the buildings are so large that they even struggle to have decent sidewalk sometimes.

    🔹 What's Happening With Project X?

Boston Landing C2 (60 Guest Street) is approved by the BPDA and the Hotel has filed and is working through the process. Kind of exciting to see that master plan finish out

I don't think it is a good neighbor. We haven't seen the sidewalk/site built yet but the designs are just wide, paved area. It's getting all that great south light and could have planting and/or more seating to be more friendly to the street and passers by

And this is why all we see is lab being proposed.

Welcome to 21st century development. This is the cheapest way to build residential, which is why you see it all over the country.

Dorchester Bay City (nee Bayside Expo Ctr.) | Columbia Point

Agreed. But from what I've heard, Harbor Point doesn't want one. Reminds me of how Suffolk Downs is completely cut off from the rest of East Boston.

That metal panel on 89 looks really thin and crappy. It's a shame

    The New Retail Thread

Saw an article in the Boston Globe today about a new Irish restaurant opening "in City Hall Plaza" but no location. Anyone know more about this? Sounds interesting, Ireland certainly has a lively food community that we could benefit from. I'm just wondering where it's going to be.

From the renders, it looks like a combination of glass, a couple of different colors of metal panel (gray and red) and some reflective surfaces. It's interesting to see it on a cloudy day--I think the building will change a lot based on the sky around it.

The treehouse looks squashed, like someone pushed down on it. It has so much potential to be interesting but then so top heavy

The Shattuck Hospital (Newton Pavilion) building is owned by the state, not BU so should be in a different thread

Totally agree! It's one of the main reasons I live in Boston. But it is frustrating to see how much unserved need there is and how it can lead to development being overly car oriented.
