Fall River/New Bedford Commuter Rail (South Coast Rail)

Re: Fall River/New Bedford Commuter Rail Bait-and-switching the Middleborough/Lakeville TOD would be a great future talking point for anti-TOD NIMBYs throughout the metro Boston area.

Re: Fall River/New Bedford Commuter Rail I can assure you that approximately 100% of posters on this board have misspent a significant chunk of their lives looking at maps.

The MBTA is talking about cutting all weekend commuter rail service. A terrible, bad, no-good idea and a complete step in the wrong direction. If ridership sucks, we must cut service instead of asking if ridership sucks because service levels are poor. (Nobody seems to know exactly what...

Thanks. It looked grim on satellite view, but I wasn't sure if there had been recent improvements that had occurred since the satellite snapshot was taken. In any case, the Winthrop-Boston gap is big and even when this "Clippership Connector" is completed, there's a short but significant gap...

What is the status of the path between Winthrop St and Boston Ave? Google Maps shows a gap there as well.

Regional Rail (RUR) & North-South Rail Link (NSRL)

Re: North-South Rail Link Someone who knows more about railroad ops will correct me if I'm wrong, but my understanding is the #1 benefit of the NSRL isn't even the North Side connections to SS, BBY, et al, or that it takes pressure off the GL and OL (though those are both big bonuses) but that...

As someone who used to regularly bike from Somerville to Brandeis, I'm getting a little jealous... How costly would an off-road connection between the end of the BCP at Waverley and where the Mass Central splits off the Fitchburg Line just west of Beaver St be?

    Biking in Boston

10 new Hubway stations have opened in Roxbury and Dorchester. The article says that 10 stations will open in East Boston in the fall once they've finalized locations. I've never understood why Hubway tends to plan station expansions for the fall, just in time for the system to shut down for...

Court ruling pertaining to the Newton Lower Falls right-of-way between Wellesley and Riverside. I don't know what the prospects for turning this into a trail are, but this would seem to be not bad news, at least.

The lack of infrastructure in Inman will become even more glaring when cyclists are dumped into it via the Beacon St cycle track just a block north of the intersection. Hopefully that contrast will be another catalyst for change.
