    Rose Kennedy Greenway

My point is really, that in ten years those trees are going to be overgrown and some will probably need to be removed. A tree 80-100 feet tall with a trunk diameter of 3 feet is large as far as I'm concerned.

The trees look to be some sort of oak species, maybe pin oaks? They are nowhere near full grown. As with all oaks, the species are very long-lived, and in optimal conditions will grow very large. This park is strange to me... the hardscape, planting the trees to close together. What are...

    Utopia in Queens

Would this "planned neighborhood" be considered part of the City Beautiful movement, and if so, what are other examples in the US of such neighborhoods? Although it was originally developed for the working class, it seems too patrician to me to fit that original purpose - but that comes back to...

    Rose Kennedy Greenway

^Not to mention that once the trees get larger, the roots will push up the stones and buckle the pavement. Is sticking trees in hard-scape some fashionable modern trend? This isn't the only park that I've noticed it in.

    115 Federal St. (Winthrop Square)

The author of that article also emphatically states that construction will begin in 2008, and the building will open in 2011. Wishful thinking I think, but does he know something that we don't?

Right, but isn't it likely that the Feds won't own the building, and will instead lease it from the developer? In that case the property would be taxed?

Cheap and easy Boston improvement ideas

I'd like to see Boston and Cambridge collaborate more, both in the business sense and the sharing of resources. The two cities are practically married, but I get the sense that it is an arranged marriage, and an unhappy one.

    Patriots Place

Does anybody else abhor this development? big box stores, VAST parking lots and poor rail service. What could have been a nice idea (creating maybe a sports oriented dense "village" around the stadium) has been warped into a sprawling mess. And all because Kraft wants to profit big time off...

The Economics of Building in Boston, Part 2

Re: Economics the recent fear of deflation? I thought stagflation was more a concern at this point - high inflation with low economic growth. Deflation is usually a concern during recession, and we are not at the cusp of recession. Liquidity in the market has been a major diver for low...

    Boston College Master Plan

There is a HUGE crane erected near the BC campus. I couldn't get in for a closer look, but does anybody know what this is for?

The Economics of Building in Boston

Your comparison still isn't apples to apples. What if you were to lever stocks instead of real estate? Historically the real estate market has not performed as well as large cap stocks, especially core properties such as JHT. And also, how is it that you can pay rent to yourself? The reason...

The Economics of Building in Boston

I wouldn't say that Fidelity is very influential any more. They are still moving jobs out of the city to places like NC, FL and TX. They are less committed to Boston now than they ever have been. That said, I'd love to see some of the other suburban companies that have been listed move to...

The Economics of Building in Boston

And, seemingly, the only big ego left in Boston is Mayor Menino. A good amount of corporate ego has left the city. StateStreet, maybe the last big company anchored downtown has a new home, and as such we will not be seeing any proposals from them.

David Fisher's Dubai tower will rotate 360 degrees (wtf?)

I am a believer that the faster an economy grows, or the faster a real estate market expands, the harder it will fall. Though Dubai's growth is largely driven by oil profits, a severe economic recession would staunch a lot of the rampant growth. Although, will there ever be an end to insane...

That stone looks like granite, or maybe gneiss to me.

Harvard Sq. Greenhouse Coffee Shop Closes

Please, New York style condo high rise, at 95 feet? He must be joking. We'll never see New York style condo high rises in Boston.

How big was the proposed tower at the Hurley building? And did it have the same rough concrete texture to it?

Google Maps just keeps getting better.

Very cool. It was a good thing that I-695 was never built. It would have been awful.

Battery Wharf | North End | Waterfront

It looks like the mock-up might be real stone! Under the window is what looks like grey granite. Its the beige material that I have a hard time figuring out what it is. This project looks great!
