EXP | 795 Columbus Avenue | Northeastern University

I'll be able to take some photographs tomorrow, but construction is well under way at the EXP site. The previous crane being used for pile driving has since been taken down and transported off site. More of those circular beams spanning from the edge pieces of metal have been installed and...

    Stuck behind a paywall, unfortunately.

ACC/NU Residence Hall | 840 Columbus Ave | Northeastern University

That's where my mind was at as well. With their plans to add residential housing behind Ryder and potentially expand their residential footprint near Burstein/Rubenstein, one has to wonder if they'll even consider adding anymore traditional university housing.

ACC/NU Residence Hall | 840 Columbus Ave | Northeastern University

Just to confirm, this would be another ACC run building, right?

EXP | 795 Columbus Avenue | Northeastern University

It’s disturbing just about all of campus right now sans the freshman north of the Green Line. You can literally hear it all the way in West Village. They always do it in the early morning hours too, so you’re 100% going to catch students who are trying to sleep and/or watch Zoom lectures.

EXP | 795 Columbus Avenue | Northeastern University

INV is still it’s official name on the backend of things. All the residence halls have three letter codes. They’re all pretty self explanatory except West Village A is split up into WVN and WVS for North and South.

EXP | 795 Columbus Avenue | Northeastern University

All of the other NU presidents have buildings named after them except for Freeman. Including: Speare, Ell, Knowles, and Ryder. Aren't all of the West Villages just placeholder names for the time being? Kind of like how Behrakis is "West Village D" but it received a donation for naming rights...

EXP | 795 Columbus Avenue | Northeastern University

I think it’ll be hard to group the two buildings together into one ISEC. The student body by and large refers to the first building solely as ISEC. It’ll be very hard to remove that association, IMO. Sort of like a John Hancock/200 Clarendon or Willis/Sears Tower issue.

EXP | 795 Columbus Avenue | Northeastern University

Looks like what I thought was previously them going vertical is not the case. I’m currently sitting in ISEC and watching (and hearing them, quite loudly, I might add) ram these steel beams into the ground. So much force from the equipment they’re using that it’s literally shaking the ground all...

EXP | 795 Columbus Avenue | Northeastern University

This may or may not be a dumb question, but is EXP the final name? I know ISEC was originally ISEB, but both of those abbreviations at least had meaning. I've yet to hear from anyone what EXP stands for.

EXP | 795 Columbus Avenue | Northeastern University

Not the greatest quality photo by any means, but here's an angle of the plot of land that I don't think we see too often. From here, you can kind of get a feel for how much space will be going towards the little plaza between ISEC and EXP.

Northeastern University - Institutional Master Plan

Oh, definitely. The giant lecture hall in Cargill had some major water leakage problems last year. I know the university spent some money and had crews come in and fix the roof (the part not overlaid by the plaza) just before the pandemic hit. Wouldn't make sense for them to do those renovations...

Northeastern University - Institutional Master Plan

The original IMP mentioned restructuring the concrete monstrosity that is the Richardson Plaza (I actually never knew this place had a name) near the Law School. I don't know if this is a final solution, but the university just released this article about enhancing that space. In both the...

EXP | 795 Columbus Avenue | Northeastern University

At least they’ll finally be able to repave that part of the sidewalk and make the bike lane match the rest of the green lanes on Columbus.

Northeastern University - Institutional Master Plan

In case anyone was curious, there’s been some small construction developments on Northeastern’s campus in addition to EXP breaking ground. Chicken Lou’s is being demolished. Also, a volleyball court in West Village and the green space in the science quad are being paved over with concrete. The...

Northeastern University - Institutional Master Plan

Not directly IMP related per se, but here's a list of the other units Northeastern is leasing out to social distance on-campus students as much as possible. Essentially, they've just expanded their footprint in all of the LPs they already use and are taking over the entirety of the Midtown Hotel...

ACC/NU Residence Hall | 840 Columbus Ave | Northeastern University

I agree in principle with you, but as most everyone else has said on here, it seems as these claims are fairly unfounded. Others have shown some plans to better illustrate their point, but I think the building's interaction with Tremont Street is best seen in this concept art photo. Quite...

    Voting Discussion

Personally had a really tough time deciding on the best infrastructure project. Was torn between the Red/Blue line connector, GL Transformation, NorthSouth Rail Link, and the City Hall Plaza renovations.

Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

I honestly think that the red-blue connector is a real possibility in the next ten or so years. Might be pushed back a bit because of how much corona has decreased revenue coming in.
