Avalon Exeter | 77 Exeter Street | Back Bay

Re: New Tower(s) Planned For Prudential Center I don't know about progessive, but desperate, sure. Boston was in an economic downturn, and Hynes wanted the Pru there pretty badly.

Avalon Exeter | 77 Exeter Street | Back Bay

Re: New Tower(s) Planned For Prudential Center I dig the covered staircase, too. The building as a whole is decent enough, seems to fit well with the area, and a helluva lot better than what's there now.

    Rose Kennedy Greenway

The complaining is about the order in which it is done. Why bring WiFi to the Greenway when you have no shade? They're going for everything but the shade, and it's maddening. Free WiFi is not going to bring the masses to the RKG if they're going to end up frying in the sun.

I think the 3D effect's pretty cool - if you go to the photostream you can see how the original photo compares with the animated stereograph.

    Rules for Riding the T

It's amazing to me that the T would allow that! They could institute a minimum $5.00 add to the cards on Green Line trains and buses.

    Boston Department Store Blog

Found at preservenet.cornell.edu... It closed in 1968. Here's the googlemap of the location. Not sure in the street view which is the Locatelli Block - Starbucks? -------------------- Adding the link to the word document, if anyone wants to take a look at the list of former department stores...

There's a Walgreens near the BPL on Boylston.

It's annoying when companies choose to re-locate to Boston's suburbs.

^^You got it! Car commuting is the worst (especially if, like myself, you previously didn't own a car for 6 years), not to mention being trapped in office park/strip mall world, where sidewalks are barely an afterthought. Sadly, office morale is never factored into these moves.

    Malden Center and untapped potential

    Rules for Riding the T

^^I could see this working if they set up two separate "stops" at each bus stop, one for cash, and one for card. I didn't even realize you could add money to your card on the bus - I'd been going to the T stations for that. Or do you mean that if you don't have enough on your card, you just...

    Malden Center and untapped potential

A private parking lot? I don't know specifically about this situation in Malden, but parking lots are good money-makers for developers, and I'd be surprised (though delighted!) if it were anything but a parking lot for as long as this recession lasts, even if they did claim it was "temporary".

    The New Retail Thread

Walking in Central Sq. (Cambridge) yesterday, saw that there's a new cafe - Flour Bakery - next to that new wine/cheese place at street level of that Novartis(?) office building. I'm very glad to see the retail there, but the tinted glass windows they use make it difficult to tell if either of...

It's annoying when companies choose to re-locate to Boston's suburbs.

I work for a software company that moved from Kendall Sq. to an office park in Marlborough last year. Not sure how widespread this phenomenon is...but it's happening. These office parks are darn near giving away their office space to any company priced out of Boston/Cambridge.

    Downtown Crossing/Financial District | Discussion

I'll assume that's true (haven't spent all that much time in DC), but I'm talking more of having a part of town like U street, where you know you can stroll down the street and find a decent number of jazz clubs within a few blocks or even storefronts of each other. The only part of Metro...

    Downtown Crossing/Financial District | Discussion

Same here! The sort of thing I'm looking for I found on a trip to DC recently - there's a street in the city (is it U Street? Near 14th) where there's a bunch of places like you describe...music trailing out of the doors, and you just walk in, have a seat, have a drink and enjoy some great...
