My City is Bigger Than Your City

So? Let's compare apples with apples. Do you want to discuss Boston? How many visitors assume Brookline and Cambridge are part of our core city?

    Height Limits

WHAT? Decentralization is a good thing? I can't think of a worse philosophy in terms of planning for the future of Boston. Decentralization has hurt our infrastructure, wasted good land, driven up the cost of real estate, created shopping malls, increased the use of automobiles, destroyed the...

Shreve, Crump & Low Redevelopment | 334-364 Boylston Street | Back Bay

Re: Shreve, Crump & Low bldng may be replaced w/ new develop Damn right! Have you noticed that disgusting fenestration on the newer proposal? The poorly articulated windows look like burn holes on a blanket.

    Millennium Tower (Filene's) | 426 Washington Street | Downtown

Re: Filene's Okay, while Detroit may have had stunning individual buildings, it never had the contextural fabric that makes Boston so unique.

My City is Bigger Than Your City

Re: New tower at Aquarium parking garage. Not entirely true. Miami, for one, has a much smaller footprint than Boston. Without the area at its disposal, Miami is building UP in a big way. I see that as a way for us to go as well.

Shreve, Crump & Low Redevelopment | 334-364 Boylston Street | Back Bay

Re: Shreve, Crump & Low bldng may be replaced w/ new develop It's definitely inferior to the first proposal. Somehow the newer on e seems to huddle and loom at the same time. I say restore Shreves and let Druker build taller on the remainder of the site.

    Height Limits

Relax! It's possible to have great cities AND tall buildings in the same locale. As of now, this is not a directive; it's a proposal. It can (and should) be amended.

City Hall Discussion - Redevelopment - Preservation - Relocation

Re: Menino Proposes Selling City Hall Hanging potted plants from various places on the facade, while sounding a bit facetious to me, isn't all that far-fetched. Early renderings showed trailing vines and other green accoutrements strategically hanging off the facade. The over-all effect made...

[ARCHIVED] Harbor Garage Redevelopment | 70 East India Row | Waterfront | Downtown

Re: New tower at Aquarium parking lot. Well said! Perhaps that's why our skyline looks so anemic.

[ARCHIVED] Harbor Garage Redevelopment | 70 East India Row | Waterfront | Downtown

Avalon Exeter | 77 Exeter Street | Back Bay

Re: New Tower(s) Planned For Prudential Center Who said anything about high rises on the north side of Boylston Street? It's just that one and two stories on that side look a bit pathetic. This isn't Sioux Falls or Juarez, you know.

City Hall Discussion - Redevelopment - Preservation - Relocation

Re: Menino Proposes Selling City Hall I can't remain silent any longer: This dream of Menino's is definitely anti-urban. How many people per day on average would this plan deplete from Downtown's vitality?

Avalon Exeter | 77 Exeter Street | Back Bay

Re: New Tower(s) Planned For Prudential Center You're right, KZ. I, too, like the high steet wall created by the Mandarin, and I find disappointment in some of the pathetic, cringing structures currently occupying the other side of Boylston....AND, the Filene's Tower could actually be...

[ARCHIVED] Harbor Garage Redevelopment | 70 East India Row | Waterfront | Downtown

Re: New tower at Aquarium parking lot. Exactly! There's no reason to get up in arms over something no one has seen. Six stories or sixty, let's see what the developer has to offer before we start offering preferences and criticism.
