Logan Airport Flights and Airlines Discussion

Is Lisbon a large enough market for 3 airlines from Boston? Unless this is just for JFK flights. You'd think JetBlue would try some unserved routes.

The dotted line through downtown Salem would be awful.

    Logan Airport Capital Projects

Biggest problem is where do you build the new airport? Don't think there's ever be the political will to suffer the backlash of any nearby communities, many that are fairly wealthy in possible sites. There isn't empty space like Denver to build an airport in the middle of farmland.

They should replace it with Brussels. Not the largest market but I would think it's large enough for a daily A321.

    Tobin Bridge Relocation/Replacement

Modern tunnel boaring machines would make this less disruptive and expensive compared to the cut and cover big dig. It would be a similar project to the Alaska Viaduct project in Seattle. That cost around 3 billion. Monetizing real estate gained would help defer some of the cost. Anyhow, I...

    Logan Airport Capital Projects

Map of E has been updated to reflect the new gates. Some on airliners.net have been speculating that the gates open today. https://maps.massport.com/?_gl=1*1dq5o8e*_ga*MTY4MTY5NDczMi4xNTU0MTI1ODg0*_ga_R2WKTQBSGT*MTY5MjA0MDU0OC4xODUuMS4xNjkyMDQwNjM0LjAuMC4w#terminal/E/zone/departures-l3

They've benefited from the US and China squabbling over allowing more US China flights. Still large VFR from the Boston area to China that is no longer served directly.

Sumner Tunnel to be Given Shortened Full Summer Closure for Repairs.

Media always cries apocalypse when there's a highway closure, but it rarely happens. Let's just get rid of urban highways and use the tunnels for transit!

They did in 2011 for most state government positions. MBTA has a different system though.

    Beverly Infill/Small Developments

Zoning board does plan to rezone that area. A developer bought the old bowling alley and a few buildings on that block and it's sitting empty waiting for the rezoning. According to the mayor the rezoning is on hold until the Hall-Whitaker replacement bridge starts construction. It's the main...

    Beverly Infill/Small Developments

I live in Beverly. The biggest political issue is that the bridge going to downtown was condemned and will be out of commission for a few years. 5 story by right zoning is still better than most other suburbs in the Boston area though. Probably the bigger loss is the 4 story limit along...

MBTA Commuter Rail (Operations, Keolis, & Short Term)

Electrification would fix a decent chunk of the time loss from closer spaced spots. They should reopen Mishawum though.

MBTA Commuter Rail (Operations, Keolis, & Short Term)

Same with how closely spaced the Winchester stops are, before Winchester center closed. Winchester center is the only one dense enough in that town to deserve a transit stop imo.

AC Hotel by Marriott | 1 McGrath Highway | Somerville/Cambridge

McGrath highway ain't the most appealing place for a hotel, this is a 6 lane stroad.

MBTA Commuter Rail (Operations, Keolis, & Short Term)

So it takes over 2 years to start construction when something is condemned. Gotta love the great state of Massachusetts. There has to be a way to decrease permitting timelines for condemned infrastructure (I live next to a bridge with a similar timeline).

Infrastructure to Nowhere (The Vestigial Infrastructure Thread)

The Mishawum commuter rail stop on the Lowell line. Trains haven't stopped there since COVID I believe. https://maps.app.goo.gl/Dp6oF9KCTbHVko6C8 Honestly with the new Woburn village development the T may want to look at reopening that stop.

The area over by the FedEx ship center would be an easier walk if they connected it to terminal B, as the distance from A to a theoretical new gates would be very long.

Would love to see another option for a daytime flight other than BA to London.

Regional Rail (RUR) & North-South Rail Link (NSRL)

The real proposal should be to convert the silver line to green and connect it to the seaport via a new tunnel, if we're doing crazy transit pitches.
