Great post. For the most part, I agree with everything that van says here. Maybe a one or two fewer parcels designated for development, but, on the whole, I agree. The key for the developments on these parcels is for them not to dominate the plot and recreate the feeling of the old Central...

[ARCHIVED] Harbor Garage Redevelopment | 70 East India Row | Waterfront | Downtown

Re: New tower at Aquarium parking lot. I think ruin might be a bit strong, but I am definitely not a fan of tall towers coming right up to the edge of the waterfront. I acknowledge that the appearance of the city from the water is not the main concern (nor should it be), but I have always liked...

    Even Newer Northeastern Dorm Building

Boston is a college town, and will likely always will be. Unless the schools completely take over the city, I have no problem with these schools developing land that they own. If done right, these school-related projects can bring many benefits to the area. Maybe not this one in particular (it...

City Hall Discussion - Redevelopment - Preservation - Relocation

Re: Menino Proposes Selling City Hall I like Lrfox's thinking here. Open space does nothing if people don't stay there...and the occasional businessman having lunch in a park and then promptly leaving does not count towards usage, in my opinion. Rework the area with a new mid-rise building and...

[ARCHIVED] Harbor Garage Redevelopment | 70 East India Row | Waterfront | Downtown

Re: New tower at Aquarium parking lot. Of the list you provided, I would classify three as twins - Harbor Towers, Charles River Park, and the Millenium Towers (that are in Boston - I am not including the NorthPoint towers). Hardly a trend. Other than the similar skin, I wouldn't consider the...

An outdoor rink would be terrific come wintertime. If there were trees, they could put some lights in them as well, really making the area pretty cool. The water on one side, and the city on the other. Throw in a pushcart or two, and you have a great little spot.

City Hall Discussion - Redevelopment - Preservation - Relocation

Re: Menino Proposes Selling City Hall Some brutalist architecture can be considered an abomination (Government Center Garage is a great example of that...it will be a travesty if that doesn't come down), but I think that the current City Hall could really be something great if...IF...they rehab...

    Even Newer Northeastern Dorm Building

That building looks pretty good. Nothing groundbreaking or particularly fantastic about it, but, at the same time, I don't look at it and cringe or wonder what the hell the architect was thinking.

[ARCHIVED] Harbor Garage Redevelopment | 70 East India Row | Waterfront | Downtown

Re: New tower at Aquarium parking lot. I personally don't like the Harbor Towers at all really. I guess it isn't out of place in the sense that there are those two buildings nearby, however, I don't like the Harbor Towers where they are either. In essence, I don't like tall buildings on that...

[ARCHIVED] Harbor Garage Redevelopment | 70 East India Row | Waterfront | Downtown

Re: New tower at Aquarium parking lot. ShawnA, we realize that when somebody wants to invest in a city it's a good thing. That's basic. However, the developer/investor needs to be sensitive to the surrounding area and make the project improve the surrounding society as a whole rather than...

[ARCHIVED] Harbor Garage Redevelopment | 70 East India Row | Waterfront | Downtown

Re: New tower at Aquarium parking lot. For me an ideal waterfront area, for me, would consist of a lot of great low- to mid-rise buildings directly on the water (Rowes Wharf, for example), with all of the larger towers rising up on the other side of the Greenway. That's kind of what we have...

    Rose Kennedy Greenway

That's what I was getting at, Ron, more of a glass skywalk connecting the two sections rather than a big block of a building. That's precisely the reason that I dislike the Government Center Garage so much. Anyway, it looks like a group is interested in the possibility of ice skating on the...

    Rose Kennedy Greenway

This is one exception where I must agree that height is not necessarily a good thing. I think it would be cool to have a building such as this one begin on one parcel, and have a bridge over to another parcel where another portion of the building is located, kind of like what Charlie suggested...

Bulfinch Crossing | Congress Street Garage | West End

Re: Congress St Garage is being sold. I totally agree with everybody's sentiments about the garage...the developer could not have planned that building worse. My suggestions lie solely with City Hall Plaza.
