    BCEC expansion | Seaport

Let's not forget what was here...a bunch of nothing. If we're going to have a convention center it ought to be the optimum size. The location's not that bad, a short walk down Summer St. and you're in downtown and at least it's not taking up valuable space in the city proper. I've been...

Copley Place Expansion and Tower | Back Bay

Re: Copley Place plan calls for condo tower A lot of factors never worked from the very beginning: as was said, the dim lighting; the juxtaposition of brick, marble, and brass; the useless water features which have been mostly torn-up and covered over; the big sculpture in the center which had...

Much better design for that space and location. I was always uncomfortable with the smooth, curvature of the facade.

[ARCHIVED] Harbor Garage Redevelopment | 70 East India Row | Waterfront | Downtown

Re: The Boston Arch (Aquarium parking garage) I checked the Boston Globe magazine section for Feb. 24, 1963. On page 22 there are 4 towers showing. None of them are being shown on India Wharf and the proposal predates Pei's involvement. All four were to be located on what is now Rowe's Wharf...

Re: The Boston Arch (Aquarium parking garage) Yes, the garage is a hideous hindrance. Yes, everyone love to maintain views from their residences. Yes, something is going to replace that garage eventually. Yes, we all like to look at great looking buildings (and distract us from, ahem...the...

Hate to contradict. but the DeLue statue was always on the Boylston Side, exactly where it is to day. It has never been moved. I'm talking as far back as 1964. The Huntington side had stairs and fountains, but no statue and went up to the upper plaza/ Rock Center wannabe skating rink for a...

Avalon Exeter | 77 Exeter Street | Back Bay

I've seen this done quite a lot. The asphalt acts as a place saver for the pavers and covers the concrete underlayment; then it's torn up and the pavers are installed according to the edge of the curbing.

^^Regarding the statue: It's a sculpture by Donald DeLue. He's got a number of maquettes on view at the Child's Gallery on Newbury. He also sculpted the monumental and similar statue for the 64 New York World's Fair along the way toward the Unisphere. Regarding Ring Road: it used to run the...

Outdoors in N.E.? Picnic tables would be cumbersome, force some people to sit "in the middle" and not allow for a degree of flexibility in table/seating arrangement for varying sizes of parties. The small tables around the Brewer Fountain work in just this way. Indoor beergarden complete with...

    Boston Common Overhaul

From what I've read there's a plan to restore the wrought iron fencing along this end of the common. I presume it'll look similar to the Boylston St. end of the Common. I also got a reply from the Friends of the Public Garden that there are plans afoot to redo the area around the visitors'...

Former Grampy's Gas site | 290 Cambridge Street | Beacon Hill

Re: 290 Cambridge Street, Beacon Hill That's okay...when Cambridge St. was widened in the 1920's to accommodate more cars they tore off the facades of a lot of buildings on that side and reclad them. This rendering looks like it's from that era...And who really will notice it? Most people are...

[ARCHIVED] Harbor Garage Redevelopment | 70 East India Row | Waterfront | Downtown

Re: The Boston Arch (Aquarium parking garage) Hyperbole: pictoral, descriptive, literary...does anyone remember the proposal in the 60's for the 1976 World's Fair to be built at Pleasure Bay that appeared in the Boston Globe magazine? I didn't think so. In the end the garage will have to go...
