Copper Mill Development | Elm Street and Grove Street | Davis Square

That's likely because Copper Mill does not want to sign new retail leases on a building that they hope to redevelop imminently. Relatively temporary situation. Whereas the number of retail spaces they decide to incorporate will be more or less locked in for decades to come.

Copper Mill Development | Elm Street and Grove Street | Davis Square

As depicted on page 7 of the deck, the existing site has 10 storefronts on Elm. This seems to propose 8 storefronts on Elm + a building lobby + 1 more storefront around the corner on Grove. (It's a little confusing, but I think the A-J numbering is just counting the facades, not the the number...

Mixed Use (40B Fmr Star Market) | 299 Broadway | Winter Hill | Somerville

If anyone wants to do a deep dive on this subject, I think Chapter 10 of The Death and Life of Great American Cities presents a solid defense for why it can valuable to keep a building like Winter Hill Liquor around. I think this one particular line summarizes it well though: Full book...

Back Bay Garage Tower | Dartmouth and Stuart | Back Bay

Bullet dodged. Boston deserves much better architecture at such a prominent intersection.

    Natick development

There's a clip from this meeting floating around Twitter where a speaker makes a very strong argument for complying with the MBTA Communities Act (quoted at the end of your article). When we fail to build diverse housing typologies, our towns become only suitable for a few specific groups of...

    NYC Architecture and Development

LIC is starting to come into its own imo. I haven't seen anything written on this yet, but the area around Court Sq is really turning into another NYC Chinatown, except this one is for moneyed Millennials/Gen Z. There are a number of interesting spots for teas/dumplings/jianbing, that you...

Going to Chicago, looking for recommendations

Just visited Chicago for the first time a few weekends ago and really enjoyed. Inadvertently ate half my meals with the same restaurant group, One Off Hospitality (as featured on The Bear almost a suspicious amount). The chicken dish at The Publican might've been my favorite meal.

South Station Tower | South Station Air Rights | Downtown

Genuinely curious - anyone know what's with the fits of the guys in the crosswalk?

Lyrik Back Bay | 1001 Boylston Street (Parcel 12) | Back Bay

It's being talked about here because this is a forum that discusses architecture and new construction in Boston. The other 99% of people that happen upon it and its dubious legibility won't give it a second thought.

1270 Commonwealth Avenue (Old CVS Site) | Allston

Preposterous statement. This section of Comm Ave is almost exclusively 4-5 story walkups. And a useless 10 foot lawn would benefit no one here.

The Ipswich | 2 Charlesgate West | Fenway

I'm sure such a change would be unpopular with some, but if the Parking Clerk and BPDA maintained a list of parking permit ineligible developments, I feel like that could go a decently long way to invalidating a lot of NIMBY opposition to new developments.

The Ipswich | 2 Charlesgate West | Fenway

We're going from building a 21st century, residential take on the Lipstick Building to building StuVi 7. (I'll still take, but disappointing.)

    11-21 Bromfield Street | DTX | Downtown

I know this proposal had an uninspiring street-level, but this would've been one of the most exciting towers built in the US in the last couple decades.

1400 Boylston Street | Star Market & Gulf | Fenway

This is giving me flashbacks to Parcel 12/1001 Boylston, where the colors in the original renders quietly disappeared as time went on. I fear this is going to end up a whole lot more landscraper-y if it's a single color.

*Extremely anecdotal* I've been taking the 7 train into the city some weekday mornings recently. I keep being struck by how my train car will be moderately busy between Queens and Times Square, and then nearly empty between Times Square and Hudson Yards. There have been times where I've been...

Shocked we're still doing this in 2023. I thought this had peaked pre-covid.

    165 Park Drive | Fenway

What bothers me most with this proposal is entirely out of their control: that stupid skinny triangular lot fronting Kilmarnock Street, being used for about a dozen parking spaces. The site conditions make a good urban street wall impossible.

Lyrik Back Bay | 1001 Boylston Street (Parcel 12) | Back Bay

Maybe not exactly the right environment for it, but I feel like a multi-story video screen on the blank wall facing the Mass Ave and Newbury intersection could potentially be cool.

New-build classical architecture (evoking old styles)

Old-ish buildings, now evoking older styles. The construction technique is very interesting to me. Looks great today, wonder how it holds up.
