Skylines and Developments of the US/World

Detroit's street layout yields better to skyscraper canyons than Boston, IMO. Almost any building in Detroit of decent height and composition can have a major impact, whereas in Boston they more often than not blend into the existing fabric of the city.

New-build classical architecture (evoking old styles)

A really nice blend of neoclassical elements in a recently topped off residential building in St. Pete, FL: The Nolen, St. Pete: https://stpeterising.com/home/23-story-luxury-condo-tower-the-nolen-tops-out-downtown-st-pete

Dick’s House of Sports | Prudential Center | Back Bay

There is still work to be done at the Pru including adjacent parcels and until it’s fully realized I wouldn’t want to see a “pause” in any development there.

    Infrastructure projects of the US

The truss bridges are a nice historical nod, and the blue is a fun and playful touch (something seriously lacking in most bridge replacement or new construction these days).

New-build classical architecture (evoking old styles)

Normally highly appreciative of the retro art deco look but something seems a bit one dimensional about this one — perhaps it’s setting in relative isolation to its surroundings.

Other People's Rail: Amtrak, commuter rail, rapid transit news & views outside New England

Dorchester, Roxbury, Mattapan, Somerville, Lynn, Everett all boost population densities within that range. By that measure, outer ring lines (within the beltway) could be supported.

    NYC Architecture and Development

It would be even better if some of the historic manufacturing towns, notably Lowell and Lawrence, were to benefit from polycentrism, not to mention Worcester.

Other People's Rail: Amtrak, commuter rail, rapid transit news & views outside New England

Incredible! I lived in Versailles car-free for a year and share the pain of the woman interviewed. Getting anywhere by bus would take easily 1.5-2 hours. It discouraged me to the point where I rarely went anywhere but central Paris. This makes me long for that outer ring MBTA line around the...

Other People's Rail: Amtrak, commuter rail, rapid transit news & views outside New England

The last train leaves each end of the line at closing. All stations close down at the same time so if you are not already in the metro by that time, you won’t catch the train. There may have been and are exceptions due to staffing shortages, but that doesn’t sound like what you are suggesting.

Other People's Rail: Amtrak, commuter rail, rapid transit news & views outside New England

DC Metro closes at midnight Sun-Thurs and 1am Fri/Sat. While it would be great if it ran much later to at least 3am when bars shut down, it’s really not much different from the T in that regard. I’m not sure when you were at Dulles but the Silver line extension had a plethora of challenges...

Other People's Rail: Amtrak, commuter rail, rapid transit news & views outside New England

I’m currently living in Capitol Hill and when necessary, I fly out of Dulles and the Silver Line extension has been hugely helpful. My only gripe is that they do not have express trains from DC to Dulles so you need to plan ahead significantly. Obviously DCA is much more convenient. It is very...

South Station Tower | South Station Air Rights | Downtown

These pictures show that the arched area will have plenty of natural sunlight rather than a crypt-feeling that some have feared.
