Copley Square Revamp | Back Bay

Given the heat surge this summer, it’s not a great space to really linger for long periods of time anyway.

Bowdoin College has a good example of mixing a historic campus building with a modern glass expansion: https://www.architectmagazine.com/awards/art-museum-upgraded_o

I think the main issue is that the glass box is so large in comparison to the wings of the building. They just need to tone it down a bit — something a bit more restrained and classical would work well.

Other People's Rail: Amtrak, commuter rail, rapid transit news & views outside New England

In terms of DC, I was more less referring to the SW waterfront connections directly to DCA via the yellow line and then to metro center via the red and yellow lines. Like Hafencity, the DC waterfront is also serviced by two heavy rail stations (Waterfront, Navy Yard-Ballpark), granted they were...

Copley Square Revamp | Back Bay

The city could start by creating temporary structures similar to when Times Square was pedestrianized to see how traffic flows before creating a new plaza.

Copley Square Revamp | Back Bay

It's the preeminent square in the Bay Bay if not all of Boston. Why do you feeling a much needed refresh to be a waste of money?

A more apt comparison to the Seaport may be the DC SW waterfront (Navy Yard, the Wharf).

I love the idea of restaurants aligning the canal along the USPS site, sort of in the vein of what you’d see in Hamburg along the canals there.

I do believe that LA has a higher population density over NYC outside of Manhattan.

Shreve, Crump & Low Redevelopment | 334-364 Boylston Street | Back Bay

While this never should have happened, I like the openness on that corner that yields to interesting site lines. Unfortunately that will not last. I could see a ton of interesting uses on that plot other than what is ultimately being built.

    Boston College Master Plan

Well, I’ll go on the record as liking it. It’s certainly more daring than the neo-gothic style that BC has been going with for the last decade and more.

Some of us actually like Boston City Hall (notwithstanding Government Center).

South Station Tower | South Station Air Rights | Downtown

Oh come on, it’s more than just a featureless monolith. If it were, wouldn’t it just fade into obscurity? It’s easily one of the top 5 recognizable buildings on the Boston skyline. I’ve always considered the slender sides as bookends — a symbol of sorts that protects the contents of the interior.

    NYC Architecture and Development

Well, Boston isn’t the only city keen on tearing down historic facades for glass boxes.

South Station Tower | South Station Air Rights | Downtown

I agree with this. I was simply responding to the comment regarding a Grand Central comparison, a Beaux-arts designed station built in the City Beautiful area of station building. I would suggest that the MFA evokes more of that "grandness," if you will.

South Station Tower | South Station Air Rights | Downtown

^I'm aware of what it looked like before some of the demolition. It was certainly an improvement over the current iteration, but I wouldn't go as far as to say it was "grand" like some of the other examples.

South Station Tower | South Station Air Rights | Downtown

South Station was never built with the "grand hall" of places like Grand Central, Union Station, 30th Street Station. Not that it doesn't deserve an upgrade. The historic North Station was much more "grand" by comparison.
