New-build classical architecture (evoking old styles)

How did that mansard roof make it through review? A cornice roof would have been appropriate - the building works just fine until the roof.

BU Data Sciences Center | 665 Commonwealth Avenue | BU Central

That is a different point than you were previously suggesting. Sure, its incomplete. All school amend their IMPs -- tell me a single one that did not amend an IMP in Boston to add new projects, or revise an existing plan.

BU Data Sciences Center | 665 Commonwealth Avenue | BU Central

I'm aware of the BU IMP. It is not an indication that COM is being "pushed out" by the university, rather a relocation of COM to a side of campus that is aligned with alike programs such as in CFA, WBUR, Daily Free Press, etc. At this point, it makes far more sense to move COM and free up that...

BU Data Sciences Center | 665 Commonwealth Avenue | BU Central

That is a false statement. No school gets “kicked out” of a space. But I enjoy your misinformation campaign.

I’m curiously awaiting a rendering for the proposed Pardee school expansion building at central campus as it will be telling if BU continues to push the architectural envelope.

Critical discussion about the BU law tower and City Hall would be a more appropriate topic — same era, style, and loved / hated depending on who you speak with (I’m in the “love” category which I’m sure surprises no one here). But BU did drastically improve the law tower with the addition and...

The Aubrey | 149-153 Newbury Street | Back Bay

^I think we can expect a bit more than to just behave nicely especially when there is quality infill projects abound in many cities (and a few recent in Boston such as Harriet Tubman house).

Such a neat photo -- everything about that iteration is more visibly pleasing than the current corner.

    NYC Architecture and Development

LA has been relatively successful as of the last 2 decades combining heavy and rail rail systems into an expanded and comprehensive interconnected metro system. If LA can do it surely NYC will have no issues with ridership and connections. The IBX proposal somehow mirrors the Purple Line...

New-build classical architecture (evoking old styles)

Great addition to Minneapolis. That building looks so odd though against an adjacent surface parking lot and a series of modern mid-rise apartment buildings.

The Aubrey | 149-153 Newbury Street | Back Bay

I think I preferred the look before the brick started to rise. A limestone facade would have been more visually appealing. Still a worthy addition to Newbury.

Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial | Boston Common | Downtown

This is rather jarring. I’m trying to find the meaning of this. Rarely is BU regarded for its artist contributions, but I much prefer the understated elegance of Free at Last: https://www.bu.edu/today/close-ups/2015/free-at-last-marsh-plaza/

    Providence developments

Agreed I’ve always disliked those lights. Something more stylized like these In the DC Navy Yard which are inexpensive to replicate would be ideal (both examples). For Providence overall I’d probably lean to the second option — the black simpler streetlights as to fade in.

It will be interesting to see how BU achieves the goal of having a net zero carbon footprint by 2030.

Is it really that hard for you to recognize that BU did something groundbreaking?

Vassar doesn’t need retail, IMO. It serves as a cross street from Kendall to Mass Ave / central MIT area.

I’m not really understanding the consternation for MIT — in less than a few decades MIT has helped transform Kendall into a vibrant area and global innovation hub.

City Hall Plaza Revamp | Government Center

Great idea for a playground — even better for commuters. I could have used a slide like that 100s of times through the 90s transcending Gvt Center.
