    Commuter Rail to New Hampshire?

Speaking as someone that grew up in NH, there's always been tension between "common good" and "I don't use it, so why should I pay for it" in the state. Transportation and education seem to really get people riled up.

Future Plans for Hynes Convention Center | 900 Boylston St | Back Bay

I lived for several years on the top floor of a building on the south side of Comm. Ave. between Fairfield and Gloucester, and could't really recall any time where I was shaded by the Pru, Hancock, or other buildings except during early morning hours. IIRC, by the time the sun was high enough...

    Commuter Rail to New Hampshire?

Yes, they have done that in the past. https://www.planetizen.com/node/86010/new-hampshire-house-denies-federal-funding-boston-concord-rail-study With such a restricted tax base, people in NH are very aware of and protective of their property tax rates and amounts. Anything that could lead to...

    MBTA Buses & Infrastructure

I think our definition of fail strongly differs from the T's definition. The clear intention is to get rid of the wires and the road projects provide such a good opportunity for them to do so, they've got to contort reality to make a case for it. Once the wires are down, it's a success for the...

Cape Cod Rail, Bridges and Highways

I fully support the suggested rotary alternative, but mostly because it continues our tradition of making nonstandard rotaries and roundabouts.

You might as well add capacity to that list as well. I was a day 1 rider of the SL from South Station to the WTC stop. This was when the Seaport was still full of parking lots and, had I wanted to, I could park across the street from my office at WTC West for $8/day. My experience was that...

Cape Cod Rail, Bridges and Highways

Average (pre-COVID) daily traffic over the bridges ranges from 80k - 136k per month. In terms of people, that's probably close to the ridership of the entire Commuter Rail system. I'd go so far to say that even with an amazingly robust transportation system, we'd still need the bridges.

I feel like the question of parking for the museums is more around benefit for those coming out of town. Families in the city can simply walk or take transit, though some would still drive if given the option. Regarding strollers and transit, I don't know anyone in the city that ever used an...

The Alcott (née Garden Garage Towers) | 35 Lomasney Way | West End

When I lived in that area, my wife worked in Waltham and none of the shuttles made it possible to get back in time for school pick-up, so a car was the only option. A long time ago when I was young and single, I had no problem going car-free from downtown to a job also in Waltham, but that was...

    MBTA Buses & Infrastructure

Yeah, this plan makes zero sense. We want to replace TT with Battery for [reasons] but we're not going to wait for Battery to be ready so we're going to use Diesels in the interim (i.e. forever). I agree that this is just a ploy to get rid of the wires. Moving forward BEFORE an alternative...

    General Infrastructure

I think part of the problem is that such planning is either beyond many people or virtually impossible at rush hour. I do agree that if one keeps their head up and reads the signage, it's possible to identify the correct lane, which is way better than many places where there are not markings or...

    General Infrastructure

The ONLY reason I've ever had to deal with Wellington Circle on a daily basis was to get to/from the Orange line. lt's an active impediment to people who want to take transit. Another big issues are that you have to have a pre-knowledge of the intersection to choose lanes appropriately to...

    General Infrastructure

I'm not sure what the right answer is, but Wellington Circle is the main reason I gave up on trying to commute via the Orange Line from Winchester. In optimal conditions, it's about 15 minutes from my house. During commute ours (pre-COVID, at least) it ranged from 30-45 minutes, with most of...

Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

As someone who's lived in that area both before and after the overpasses were removed, the new configuration is a massive improvement, but the actual implementation still needs some work. Each side of the brick curbing has independent walk signals and stop lights, i.e. the stop light shows a...

Regional Rail (RUR) & North-South Rail Link (NSRL)

Hello fellow Zone 2 reverse-commuter! While I'm no longer a member of this illustrious group, I did the downtown to Waltham commute for a few years and was a regular rider of the 5XX buses, and even the elusive 170 bus. As noted, the schedules of these buses was much more "on time" in the...

Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

How wide is the Paul Dudley White path along the Charles as you approach Cambridge Street / River Street? That's pretty narrow and bounded by barriers on either side, and feels like a tight squeeze when passing or when someone is coming from the other direction.

Charlesbank Landing - Esplanade (near MOS)

As a former local resident and parent, I still think rebuilding the pool would be more useful, but (and I can't read the article, so I don't know what actual plans are) I'm sure the Esplanade Association will include enough space for hosting fundraisers, etc. Even if the building just included...

The Alcott (née Garden Garage Towers) | 35 Lomasney Way | West End

Access isn't restricted at all, so I'm not sure what adding streets would do other than add cars to one of the few places in the area where one can walk and feel like you're part of an urban oasis (despite the entire area feeling a touch run-down).

    Laconia, NH

Funny that you should say that. The Colonial is where I saw The Empire Strikes Back as a child, when the theater was in its incarnation as a single-screen moving theater. It was later chopped up into a 5 screen theater. RANT A few folks I know that have attended a show at the theater raved...
