Even more 1970s lobby photos. These are from Page Arbitrio & Resen, the environmental graphic designer for the building's spaces. (Totally random bonus shot, but this same studio also happened to do the graphics for the OG 7 WTC in NYC, one of my favorite buildings of the 1980s.)

This building is looking way better than I ever imagined it would. Glad that the glass is somewhat less fishbowl-y than buildings like 121 Seaport.

Another "what did" question coming from me... what did the Huntington Arcade look like (1993-1998-ish) prior to the construction of the massive expanded one?

What did the lobby of 101 Huntington look like prior to the site's redevelopment? I assume it was just a bland corporate lobby, different from the swanky polished one in the present.

View from the Custom House Tower in 1963. Notable in here are the former parking lot at the future State Street Bank tower's site, and Travelers prior to the construction of a new wing.

Elevators at Darth Vader and One Post Office Square in the 80s. Hate to say it but Jung Brannen's lobby design is fugly.

Yeah, that's my bad, I didn't end up seeing the bottom part of your message...I think that the majority of Boston architecture nerds admire the Pru as it is anyways.

I personally think that the Pru would look awkward if it was taller... the current height to width ratio is fine the way it is. We Bostonians know the Pru for what it is.

It's about time this thread got revived! I found a photo in a newspaper of the October 15, 1993 opening of the Shops but I've unfortunately lost it. :(

Looks like something you would see proposed for NYC nowadays… get rid of the garbled notches and it would actually look decent.

Who ever decided "Yeah, instead of re-cladding the tower gradually up, we'll just finish one half and do a little patch on the top after that"?

Will they ever paint over the pinkish material like they did in the mall interior?
