    Waltham Moody/Main

I only wish America had its head in the 19th century's butt. The reality is that America, Boston included, still has its head firmly in the butt of 1950's Autotopia, maybe now more than ever. In an urban environment, in all but the most special cases, I'll take good urbanism over good...

Boston Conservatory of Music | 132 Ipswich St | Fenway

Re: Boston Conservatory of Music buys 132 Ipswich St The site is zoned for eight-stories but they're only building three? Why is it being so underutilized? This is a total head-scratcher.

Does the DTX BID have governance over the street carts? If so, why? Seems like a clear conflict of interest. The carts are in competition with the shopfronts. Of course the shopfront owners will want to limit or eliminate them.

    The New Retail Thread

So, according to the Tweet, the BRA is directly contradicting the Globe article. Did the Globe just not seek the BRA's comment on this issue or what? Seems like it may be a case of extremely sloppy journalism. Another nail in the Globe's coffin?

The Kensington | 665 Washington Street | Downtown

Re: Residences at Kensington The Kensington looks like a cardboard box with an image of a building being projected onto its sides.

    Boston population rises to 645K

I think two simple changes to the zoning code could get most of those single-story commercial buildings developed very quickly. The first would be to increase or eliminate the FAR limits. A lot of these buildings have a maximum FAR of 1.0 or less. You really can't do anything with that if your...

Seaport Square (Formerly McCourt Seaport Parcels)

It doesn't seem to be very large. So what is an "innovation center" used for?

Assembly Square Infill and Small Developments | Somerville

Re: Assembly Square Redevelopment I'd rather good urbanism than good architecture. Ideally, we'd have both, though we rarely get either. This project is trying hard to sell itself as good urbanism, but looking at the plan and the way many of these buildings are configured, I'm skeptical. The...

Re: Assembly Square Redevelopment I love the antagonistic jab at the Seaport. I wish all T accessible cities would get in the act. A little competition would be a good thing.

Back Bay Garage Tower | Dartmouth and Stuart | Back Bay

Re: Back Bay Garage Tower (Dartmouth and Stuart) Boston could absorb another 200k residents, no problem. The city's population today is still over 20% below its historic high in the 50s. That's a huge percentage. As far as population is concerned, Boston remains a hallowed-out city in many...

Pierce Boston (née The Point )| Boylston St/Brookline Av | Fenway

Re: The Point (Boylston/Brookline) I love what's happening along this stretch of Boylston. The thing is though, these buildings are not that different than the other crap that's going up all around the city. They have big footprints and they're squat. Albeit their materials may be a bit better...
