Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial | Boston Common | Downtown

Honestly the fact that everyone has an opinion on it even before it's installed means it's already a success. No one would care or think about a traditional statue of MLK once the fancy dedication ceremony was over. My only complaint is that the concept is too warm and fuzzy to properly honor...

The Engine (MIT) | 730-750 Main Street | Cambridge

No it's more for-profit developers vs. non-profit institutions. The two have a differing set of values.

    Crazy Transit Pitches

F-Line, it would be great to have this entire series (and any other similar proposals that you've sketched out.. I remember one for LRT UR through Kendall) live somewhere where we can easily revisit. I find these to be incredibly well done and informative and know I would make good use of a...

Copley Square Revamp | Back Bay

I would personally love it if they replaced that sign with 90 WEST - SEATTLE. Tip of the hat to the longest interstate in the country.

Encore Boston Harbor Casino | 1 Broadway | Everett

Was it actually though? Encore wasn't hitting their fantasy inflated projections but it's a real stretch to say they were doing poorly. I remember them routinely pulling in over $50m/month, which translates to $600-$700m/year. Their projections were at $800ish million, so yes didn't quite get...

Encore Boston Harbor Casino | 1 Broadway | Everett

Encore Boston Harbor's official Twitter account shot down the news pretty strongly. I guess we'll see who's bluffing...

Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

So now we have to build our infrastructure to assuage little Johnny who's scared of heights? I'm sorry I know I'm being insensitive, but I think these complaints are absolutely ridiculous. And there will obviously be railings on the final product.

Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

Lol all this complaining about the ramp is honestly hilarious. It's called exercise, it's GOOD for you. If that ramp deters 99% of the population then we are truly doomed as a species.

    Piers Park 3 Redevelopment

You're right there are a few museum-like exceptions such as DeCordova and Crane Estate, but I don't believe they charge any fees for their extensive parks and natural areas. Parking sure, but so do state parks. Cars aren't members of the public.

    Piers Park 3 Redevelopment

All Trustees properties are free to the public. You likely frequent many of them without realizing it.

MBTA Commuter Rail (Operations, Keolis, & Short Term)

Is an extension of Kingston/Plymouth Line service to downtown Plymouth from its current awkwardly sited branch terminus at all viable in the future? The ROW appears intact and there's even a nice big parking lot off Lothrop St. ready to go for what would be a much more useful station.

Logan Airport Flights and Airlines Discussion

Reno/Tahoe seems like an obvious add if JetBlue is chasing ski traffic, along with Eagle/Vail.

The Sudbury (Bulfinch Crossing Residential Tower) | 50 Sudbury St | GCG Phase I | Gov't Center

I'm hoping the design for the second residential tower isn't final yet. As rendered the materials and palette seem way too similar to the Sudbury.

    2021 Boston Mayoral Race

The knee-jerk reaction on this forum would be to support Walsh since he is more obviously pro-development, but there are reasons to think Wu may actually be better for the city's built environment. Do we want a progressive zoning overhaul that grants developers by-right high densities near...

I-90 Interchange Improvement Project & West Station | Allston

Whether or not Harvard "should" weigh in on this particular issue is irrelevant. When Harvard talks, the state listens. Let's not forget the city of Boston also favors this plan...

The Factory at 46 Wareham | South End

This forum is so weird. We heap praise on astoundingly mediocre buildings like The Sudbury, and yet belittle a very tasteful, contextual, textured, and well-detailed building such as this one. Cjbski is entirely right that this evokes the older buildings of the Meatpacking District, and if this...

I-90 Interchange Improvement Project & West Station | Allston

Of course this idea would cost money, and a lot of it. But I'd be willing to bet the upfront costs would be at most equal to and likely lower than rebuilding the current SFR+Pike highway infrastructure. And the real savings kick in once you factor in maintenance, which is the whole reason this...

I-90 Interchange Improvement Project & West Station | Allston

Merge SFR into a ground-level Pike at the western end of the throat, eliminate Storrow from there to Mass Ave along with Charlesgate, downgrade Storrow to a signalized boulevard from Mass Ave to Longfellow, invest the hundreds of millions of dollars saved into RUR. Boom. Somebody make me...

    COVID-19 in Boston

I actually think Boston has an advantage in that many of its key commercial corridors aren't key arterials. Obviously you can't close Mass Ave, but Newbury, Hanover, Salem, Charles, Beach, Lansdowne, Canal, Centre, and Northern, for example, could all be closed with tolerable traffic impacts...

    🔹 What's Happening With Project X?

I'm more concerned about projects that haven't broken ground yet. Hoping we won't see One Kenmore and the Mass/Newbury pike parcel end up in the "proposed but never built" thread.
