    How does Boston's urbanism compare?

I was just in Seattle a couple of weeks ago and made my way down to Portland for the first time on a day trip. Really surprised by that city. It felt much more urban than Seattle, despite obviously being smaller. More compact, more historic fabric, more transit, more walkable, just more (for...

Pier 4 Condo Building (Former Anthony's site) | Seaport

Clearly I'm in the minority here but I think what we're getting at Pier 4 is much better than that pastel Tampa schtick from the original renderings. The condo part as built is a nice break from the overly glassy Seaport aesthetic and would be totally at home in a city like Copenhagen. It's also...

General MBTA Topics (Multi Modal, Budget, MassDOT)

F-Line, how the hell do you know so much?? It's truly impressive, I learn an immense amount from each of your posts. Wish there was a way to connect you with Maura Healey so you could be our next Secretary of Transportation..

Amazon HQ2 selected - and not Boston

Huge win for Boston. NY has arguably already overtaken us as the East Coast's main tech hub, and having Amazon HQ2 there would've been the point of no return. This way, the planned 25,000 jobs in NY will likely get redistributed to existing Amazon offices, including Boston.

    Logan Airport Capital Projects

In addition to what Equilibria said, I believe the plan is to relocate the ferry terminal for downtown/Hingham/Hull/(new Seaport route?), which should also make the ferry a much more attractive option.

    Kendall/MIT Infill and Small Developments

Wow I had no idea SAP was moving to the warehouse! This could be incredible. With Diller Scofidio here and Herzog & de Meuron doing the expansion of Gund Hall at Harvard we're hopefully in for some very high quality architecture.

    Worcester Infill and Developments

True, the only "incredible" thing about this development is that they demolished that gorgeous church on the corner. I guess it wasn't bland enough to fit in with everything else.

Flickr Finds & Social Media Pics

Oh yes don't we all miss the days when Boston was an inbred, provincial, intolerant backwater of a city ruled by an endless bounty of corrupt, good-for-nothing white Irish men! Who needs diversity and a vibrant future-focused economy, am I right? This city is light years better than it was in...

Quaker Lane + Congress Square | Downtown

In loving memory of the ArchBoston Awards, I would like to go ahead and name this honorary Best New Project 2018.

Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial | Boston Common | Downtown

I actually think there is something quite powerful (and undoubtedly intentional on the part of the designer) to have a monument to MLK--essentially a monument to civil disobedience against government institutions--intruding on the view of the state house. Imagine a speaker addressing a protest...

    🔹 What's Happening With Project X?

With the Motor Mart Garage tower debuting today, anybody know what's happening with its proposed neighbor 212 Stuart? Haven't heard anything on that project since the NIMBYs started acting up..

Northern Avenue Bridge Fort Point Channel

Re: Old Northern Ave Bridge ^ Wrong. We should overthink this, and I'm glad the Globe picked up the torch. The bridge is a chance to create a truly unique, bold urban public space connecting 20th and 21st century Boston across the channel (and it would be useless as a traffic artery). It is...

Logan Airport Flights and Airlines Discussion

I could see China Airlines/EVA Air making a run at BOS-Taipei or China Southern trying BOS-Guangzhou but that's about it for East Asia.

NEMA Boston | 399 Congress St. | Seaport

^ We don't need out of town firms, we just need developers to give someone besides Elkus Manfredi a damn chance. Boston has an embarrassment of riches when it comes to design talent, but you would never know it looking at what's going up in the city. It's a real shame.

Seaport Neighborhood - Infill and Discussion

Re: Innovation Dist. / South Boston Seaport I would love to see this area transform into something like NDSM Wharf in Amsterdam--an industrial waterfront turned over to creative uses, galleries/rehearsal spaces, performance venues, flea markets, live-work studios--all while maintaining a...

    Amazon HQ2 RFP

Well considering that Trudeau personally lobbied Bezos back in February, it seems like the respectful thing to do to let him know ahead of time. Allows Trudeau to celebrate a win in Vancouver and take the sting off a coming loss in Toronto.

    Amazon HQ2 RFP

PM Trudeau announced yesterday's Vancouver expansion in person. You really think the PM would come out for this relatively measly news if Amazon was going to pick Toronto for HQ2 in the near future? Toronto's bid is dead, this is clearly Canada's consolation prize. Does that mean Boston's...

    Amazon HQ2 RFP

Looks a lot like Amazon is handing out consolation prizes to losing cities in the HQ2 race. Boston this morning, Vancouver/Canada yesterday: http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/amazon-vancouver-new-jobs-1.4641765
