    Why is Boston So Ugly?

As a point of reference...I spend a lot of time in DC and they have really terrible buildings sprouting all over, especially just outside city limits. IMO, if Boston wants good architecture, the formula is relatively straight forward...but hard to implement politically. BRA requires good city...

    Quincy Center Redevelopment

Re: $1 billion development proposed to reshape downtown Quincy Three separate projects totaling nearly $100 million is a long way from the original $1B value of the project, but it's a good start. I wonder what happened to the other $900M.

    Channel Center | Fort Point

In general, Europe has smaller trucks and much better mass transit so their equilibrium for transit modalities isn't the same as it is here in the US. A lot of car owners (like me) who like biking and mass transit and often use those modes, want to see enhanced mass transit and more bile lanes...

Acela & Amtrak NEC (HSR BOS-NYP-WAS and branches only)

^^^^Consistent speed really is the key. Averaging just 90 mph its only 2 hours from South Station to Penn Station. Makes it seem easier to achieve.

MBTA Winter 2015: Failure and Recovery

Re: MBTA & Regualr Driving may be Shut Down During Coming Snowstorm! Some people dislike public pensions because of: Short amount of time working required to receive pension Fact that public pensions are supported by taxpayers many of whom do not have pensions plans of their own at their...

    Casey Overpass

induced demand is certainly a controversial topic and far from proven in any scientific way. It is more a political belief with lots of "studies" supporting both sides of the argument. One area that is easily measured and quantified is that cars, buses and trucks with non hybrid engines are...

    Casey Overpass

This is a perfect example for the anti-auto contingent of the old saying..."be careful what you wish for, you just might get it"! Lots of dust, noise and disruption during demolition and reconfiguration of the streets followed by horrendous traffic and lots more pollution from street level...

Seaport Square (Formerly McCourt Seaport Parcels)

There are 640 acres/sqmi Assuming 1.5 people per unit in the back bay and 30 units per acre that translatrs to about 29,000 per sqmi. 5000 units in the 1000 acre or 1.56sqmi seaport translates to about 4800 per sq mi about the same as Newton Eventually there will almost certainly be a lot...

Seaport Square (Formerly McCourt Seaport Parcels)

I wonder if they could make the haul road one way, outbound only for cars, so there is no new incentive to bring cars into the Seaport but its easier to get them out.

Seaport Neighborhood - Infill and Discussion

Re: Innovation Dist. / South Boston Seaport Since it's a fait accompli, the best thing to do is work to mitigate its impact by making it look half decent by putting a park on top, or building housing or a hotel or whatever on top, and building something interesting along the sides.

Re: Boylston West @ Fenway Triangle (Goodyear Tire) | 1325 Boylston Street | Fenway This is a truly amazing development for Boston. It's design and style are far beyond anything else on that block and most of the other developments in Boston/Cambridge even when there are so many other...

Mayoral Candidates and the End of the BRA?

^^^The BRA is inept and promotes crummy buildings and urban design at the whim of the Mayor. An audit will not change that. It's up to the new mayor to steer the BRA toward better developments, something he seems afraid to do.

Mayoral Candidates and the End of the BRA?

If any other Boston, State or Federal agency were subjected to an audit and the level of scrutiny the BRA has been subjected to, I think one would find the level of uncollected fees, malfeasance, and criminal handling of power far higher than was found at the BRA. This is probably because...

The Hub on Causeway (née TD Garden Towers) | 80 Causeway Street | West End

Re: The Boston Garden (TD Garden Towers) | 80 Causeway Street | West End That some kind of big/tall development was essentially approved as part of the big dig negotiations, along with its proximity to the celts and bruins venues makes anything built at this location a veritable gold mine...

Re: Trans National Place (Winthrop Square) Part 2 ^^^The FAA map has always made me wonder why the cites with 1000 foot clearances don't use what amounts to a very special opportunity to create highrise districts to generate substantial taxes for the cities involved.
