Logan Airport Flights and Airlines Discussion

Is the JAL load factor to Tokyo considered good? I think there are 186 seats 42 in business class. It probably depends to some degree on how many of the business call seats are filled.

    Academic Building @ Suffolk U | 20 Somerset Street | Beacon Hill

ToB - I was talking about the ranking for CS grad programs and talking about CS majors and to a lesser extent EEs. Whigh - My comments are IMHO and experience. Each university in this discussion has special programs, and some of those, such as the NSF funded centers you mention, may develop...

    Academic Building @ Suffolk U | 20 Somerset Street | Beacon Hill

UMASS Amherst in ranked 20th in the nation in computer science, MIT tied 1, Harvard 17, Brown 18 according to US News for CS grad programs. BC and Tufts have strong engineering grads but IMHO BU and NU are not as strong. NU is rising but my firm does not hire many CS grads from there or BU but...

Logan Airport Flights and Airlines Discussion

One of the articles quoted last week mentioned 60 pax per day would connect with JetBlue. I am surprised they expect only 60 passengers a day to transfer between international carriers and jet blue. At that level, the new flights and upgrades to the C and E terminals hardly seem worth the...

    100 Pier 4 | 136-146 Northern Avenue | Seaport

Re: Pier 4 Residential Tower | 136-146 Northern Avenue | Seaport keeping the momentum of the building boom is probably more important than the purpose of one building. builder's confidence that they can build quickly and efficiently and make money is likely to lead to more, not less...

The Alcott (née Garden Garage Towers) | 35 Lomasney Way | West End

Re: Garden Garage Towers (Basketball City) | 35 Lomasney Way | West End It will be interesting to see how this and many other projects fare now that we have a new mayor who says he is open minded and willing to look at the big picture with an eye toward mutual success through negotiation and...

Mayoral Candidates and the End of the BRA?

A major problem with development in Boston is that virtually every area is overly downzoned. Therefore, developers who want to build something big/tall enough to make best use for their capital (rather than using the capital to build in Atlanta, Dallas, NYC...) must get a zoning variance. More...

Quaker Lane + Congress Square | Downtown

Re: Fidelity's HQ may go high The buyers may be planning new construction on the site of the buildings not mentioned in the article. Given the new mayor, they probably want to avoid any major announcements other than plans to keep a couple of wonderful old buildings until they get a chance to...

    Running Summary of Major Projects

Why not use the CTBUH Height Criteria so we can make a reasonable comparison with the rest of the world? ...These and other questions are answered in the CTBUH Height Criteria, the official rules whereby tall buildings are defined and heights are measured...

    Running Summary of Major Projects

It would be great to have a column next to height in stories called "estimated height, feet" or "estimated height to roof/spire" or "estimated height to highest habitable floor"

    MA Casino Developments

New York had a popular vote first before casino development got going, probably a good idea, rather than the legislative approach taken by MA that is likely to end in lawsuits and a referendum. Apparently, they plan on building a casino near the convention center in NYC, a no-brainer IMO for...

The Hub on Causeway (née TD Garden Towers) | 80 Causeway Street | West End

Re: TD Garden Towers A 45 story residential tower with 10' per floor would be about 450 feet. 45 stories and 600' would be 13' per floor. It seems like something is wrong with the numbers in that article.

Raffles Boston (40 Trinity Place) | 426 Stuart Street | Back Bay

Re: New hotel tower Trinity Place near Copley Sq. Simply build taller and thinner: less wind and shadows, more elegant looking development and views better preserved in both old and new buildings.

    MA Casino Developments

It seems like such a no brainier to put the casino next to the convention center. You get: some entertainment and nightlife for conventioneers hopefully drawing more shows and profit to the center, money from out of sate gamblers, a privately funded "convention hotel", and the area is large...

Commercial passenger service resumes at Worcester Airport

Is it feasible to true have high speed rail (150 mph+) routed to the higher altitude inland cities of MA like Worcester? I agree that the biggest problem for the Worcester Airport is highway access and it would probably be much cheaper and more practical to build the road than HS rail service...

Logan Airport Flights and Airlines Discussion

I wonder if anyone would fly Delta if they could fly Jet Blue instead. Delta's US service out of Logan really is terrible IMO. The CRJ-900 aircraft has such small seats and overhead bins, it should be avoided whenever possible. Their service to Europe is getting better with newer/bigger planes...

The Hub on Causeway (née TD Garden Towers) | 80 Causeway Street | West End

Re: TD Garden Towers A taller, thinner tower has less shadow and wind impacts than a shorter fatter tower, too bad something that simple is never mentioned in these meeting. If the developers want tax breaks, why not ask them what they need for height and density to build without them.

Riders demand more commuter rail service

Great points^^. The T should spend its money: 1. upgrading and expanding the subway, 2. upgrading CR inside 128 to ~20 minute intervals or less, using DMU. The state should dedicate a lane during rush hours on 93 and 90 for buses inside 495 and that would probably eliminate the need for CR...

Mayoral Candidates and the End of the BRA?

The city is zoned now, overly downzoned. That makes every significant project need a variance and that is where the Mayor gets his power. Without the Mayor and the BRA to get the variance needed by the developer, a project is off. That gives the Mayor lots of leverage to control growth, pick...

Logan Airport Flights and Airlines Discussion

I really hate JFK as an international transfer point. Maybe it is better now but Delta's Lounge was filthy and crowded in general. Any kind of cross wind or weather and the whole airport becomes a real mess very quickly. I would prefer an international transfer in Boston any day especially if...
