    BU Development Thread

Re: New BU Tower ^^ My brother lives just up the hill from where you took that shot. I always pause at the intersection of Kelton & Brainerd to take in that particular view. Get any skyline shots from the building you took that shot from?

Photo of the Day, Boston Style - Part Deux

My, my! I wasn't commenting on the density of the city, trust me; I would never knock that. I simply chose that shot of mine simply because, within in the frame only, nothing is identifiably Boston (or much of anywhere for that matter). City Hall might give it away, but it's hardly visible...

    125 Tremont St.

While it does seem to be Federalist in style, I believe it is not Federalist in era. I think there is a corner stone somewhere on it with a relatively recent date for when this structure was put up. I think it was sometime in the 80's? Before, there was a stone structure with a mansard roof...

South Station Tower | South Station Air Rights | Downtown

Re: South Station Tower - Full Steam Ahead! Ran across this old proposal here. It's pretty small and I don't have a date, but has anyone seen this one before?

    Why is this building empty?

According to this photo from 1942, it doesn't look it, Ron. The building in the center, still standing today, is where a Bertucci's now operates. The two buildings to the left, one of them cut off on the side, seem to have been replaced by the New England School of Photography building...

Three Cities About the Size of Boston

Initially, overwhelming. Having been my first time visiting and having traveled little as it is, I learned what a big city really was (especially having grown up outside of Worcester). But after that first day, we got comfortable and it was all manageable after that. I enjoyed the Upper West...

4-6 Newbury Street | Back Bay

Re: New Building Proposed for Newbury Street It seems it was an empty lot, starting sometime in the 50s or 60s according to these two pictures. This first one, taken sometime in 1945 shows what is said to be 2-4 Newbury St with the taller 8 Newbury Street just visible at the top right. I...

Re: Filene's As of today, there are lengths of chain link fence running down Hawley St. next to the sidewalk. Looks like things are starting to move.

    Downtown Crossing/Financial District | Discussion

I believe these are some of the original buildings in question. The one with the Waldorf's sign on the left is where I believe the 7-11 is now, the one across the street (with the Leopard Morse sign) is the gym, I think. Arch Street is right in the middle of the picture running between the two...

    Renovations / Conversions

The Omni Parker House is undergoing an exterior renovation which, in my daily passings, seems to involve stripping the remaining ornament from the building and hauling out the fragments in pickup trucks.

    Brookline Infill and Small Developments

This is great news for that area. Having walked through that area from Heath St. to the D line many times, anything to improve it is great to hear. In other Brookline development, has anyone noticed the two projects on the eastbound side of Beacon St. in Coolidge Corner? A completely new...

Why I love working/living in the city

This morning on my B-line commute to Park Street, several birds decided to take the train from BC to Chestnut Hill Ave. It was a nice change of pace hearing the chirping on the train, watching them fly around and scaring the newspaper reading passengers in the front half of the train by flying...

Why I love working/living in the city

Really? Having passed through the contamination site myself, I must have been sitting near you on that train. I was the guy holding up my book with the yellow cover real high so the girl next to the window in front of me wouldn't see me. I recognized her as a person that talked my ear off...

    🔷 Open Thread

Didn't really want to start a new thread for this, but does anyone know what seems to be on fire at the rear of the Federal Reserve tower? The smoke is coming from somewhere in the rear. I don't have a good look at it from my location. The wind is filling Dewey Square with smoke.
